Who Are THE 3 Music Icons Of The 1990's (Solo Artists Only Please)?

Remember: Solo Artists Only!!! It's real easy because it's the 1990's.

If Michael, Prince, & Madonna are the BIG 3 of the 1980's, then who are the BIG 3 of the 1990's?

All opinions & facts are welcome. Play nice. And no name-calling!!! lol

BTW, my answers:

Mariah Carey
Shania Twain
2pac

This one's tougher. There are artists who had a huge run of popular singles and albums like Mariah, Celine, etc., but didn't do much in terms of musical innovation. Then there are folks like Bjork, Beck and PJ Harvey who owned the decade artistically and critically, but never had a lot of mainstream success. I tend to think of the latter category, cuz I wasn't into too much pop music during the majority of the 90's. So this is just my very subjective answer.

And as much as people think of the 80's being Madonna's heyday, she really had a huge impact on the 90's as well. All the controversy starting out the decade, all the big hits in the middle and her artistic tour de force, "Ray of Light" at the end. I would say her evolution in the 90's was even more startling than what came before. She was really pushing herself back then. And musically, I'd say it had by far her most interesting stuff.

I agree,the 90s was Madonna's best decade for music.Artistically,her 90s albums are superior to her 80s work.

Read: Madonna did better in the 90's than Michael or Prince did.

I have to admit, I do prefer her housey type stuff like "Vogue", many "Erotica" tracks, "Ray Of Light", etc. over her 1980s stuff. She also had some stuff in the 1990s though, that I absolutely could not stand like "Bye Bye Miss American Pie" and "Evita".

Not to be a stickler, but "American Pie" is from 2000 and "Evita" wasn't written by her.

lol I guess that shows how much I've kept up with Madonna since the early 1990s. My favorite Madonna period was the very early 1990s with "Vogue" through probably "Erotica", when she was doing a lot of house music and she was at her most shocking and controversial. After that, I liked only a hit here and there, like "Ray of Light" and "Music", but most of the other stuff I didn't care for.

Why are you guys adding the Spice Girls and The Backstreet Boys to your lists? You're supposed to pick solo artists lol

3 female artists? There are no male artists you would consider?

This album alone along with Britney came near the end of the 90s, but took America by storm that it has to be considered.

I don't know, but this is really sad. We are really reaching here. Maybe we can take some leftovers from the 70's and 80's so we can have a reasonable list?

Y'know i really had to try and remember the 90s. And the big musical impacts came from those 3 women. Is this a crime just because they own vaginas?

By "big musical impact", you're talking sales, though, right?

I dig this album. I think my mum has it somewhere? I love "still the one" anyway, is that on there? Funny as that song sounds just like starships "i didn't mean to stay all night". Which is one of my all time fav songs. Both were written by the same bloke-Robert John "mutt" lange. An amazing producer who produced for ac/dc and def leppard too. Aswell as billy ocean and michael bolton. So theres the connection. Robert married shania, the lucky asshole mad
