Battle of the Bands: Full Force vs. Ready For The World Both of these sextets dropped in '85 kicking it live, sporting drip-drip jheri curls as they kicked out funky dance floor grooves and bedroom ballads, both types being favorites at the local rollerskating rink I freqented as a Jr. Mackdaddy Full Force was more than a band--they were a hip-hop band, the band that created a sound that would go on to be called New Jack Swing. They were also a production company, producing 3 debut lp's (their's, Lisa Lisa and the Cult Jam's, and UTFO's) in the year 1985. Ready For The World, at first listen, was riding the coat tails of the Minneapolis sound. Their first single, "Oh, Sheila", fooled everyone into believing it was written and produced by Prince and that the song itself was about prince's protegee, Sheila E. FULL FORCE They were just better musicians, singers, writers/producers...they had a very strong impact on Jam and Lewis, Teddy Riley, Devante Swing, LA Reid and Babyface, and Dallas Austin, to name a few. And they also had better songs, IMO. (but I like RFTW, too) I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!

hm..
this is actually a "tough 1" to call.. off the top of my head, I would say Full Force because they brought some funk in the mid-80s, & several of their songs were FUNNY as hell & the produced other artists- namely, of couse, "Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam" then again.. RFTW had some rather funky songs, even though they were BLATANTLY MORE COMMERCIAL & Melvin Riley almost KILLED HIMSELF tryin' to sound like prince back then in the mid-80s.. maybe.. this will come down to.. WHO HAD THE BETTER JHERI CURL ACTIVATOR?!?!?! more deliberation is in order! I'll get back to y'all.. I'll see you tonight..
in ALL MY DREAMS.. | |

WHO HAD THE BETTER JHERI CURL ACTIVATOR?!?!?! Ready for the world had the better curls. Much fluffier and fit the look of the band better than Full Force. lol In terms of music I would have to go with Full Force. 'Ain't my type of hype', Friends B-4 lovers, All cried out are some of my favorite songs. I also love the sound they had with other artist.
