As a funk lover and fan of Sly and the Family Stone I´ve always wondered about this.
OK, so Sly had drug problems and Larry became a JW, but why did he want to actually KILL him ? Why the hatred ?

from what i understood, before larry went full-on into JW, he was as messed up in his own was as sly was, and the two had a bitter rivalry regarding who had the loyalty of the band and the folks in the family stone camp.

someone correct me if i'm wrong - i read this in a sly & the family stone bio i picked up at the library a couple years back, wish i could remember the name of the book...

after reading about what a power-hungry pimp LG used to be back in the day, it made me understand a little better why prince would look up to a 'spiritually enhanced' version of him.

Sounds like Larry's trying to have an excuse for everything he's done wrong

But FYI: Larry has been doing quite well before he hooked up with Prince. In 1994 he reunited his group Graham Central Station and played sold out performances all over the world. Over the long run, I actually believe that his association with Prince hurt him more than it benefited him.

If you do a little research you will find out that Larry was a little off the chain back in the day. He grew up and reformed and maybe that is why Prince hooked up with him. Maybe he sees that he can grow up and change to.

I don't think it is anymore deep than that.
