SONGWRITER SUES JANET, JAM & LEWIS: Claims they jacked “All for You” from his arsenal.

*Some Santa Cruz songwriter is suing Janet Jackson, claiming that her Jimmy Jam/Terry Lewis-produced hit “All for You” was based on a song that he wrote in 1986 for his then-girlfriend, which he later played for Jam and Lewis.

The accuser, Michael Ortega of Santa Cruz, California, told MSNBC.com’s The Scoop: “It’s taken a long time to get this to court. From what I gather [Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis] have a pattern of basically, building collages of other people’s work for their songwriting.”

Ortega says it wasn’t his intention to file a claim against Ms. Jackson-If-You’re-Nasty, but nevertheless, her name appears as a defendant alongside Jam and Lewis, her label Virgin Records, and others.

Ortega is asking for a trial jury and is alleging copyright infringement, slander, and other charges.

Yup. Sample credit was given for that. Janet's had many ridiculous lawsuits thrown at her over the years, this looks like another.

Didn't Michael have several lawsuits that were music related as well?

Anyways too bad Janet has more bullshit thrown at her. This lawsuit probably won't even make it to court.

Yeah, Michael has, too. They're a popular family, what can I say?

Anyway, I wonder how a comment like this: From what I gather [Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis] have a pattern of basically, building collages of other people’s work for their songwriting.”

can get out and not make him vulnerable to slander?

the way music is today, you can find common chords in any number of songs...unless there's some heavy similarities (doubtful), this won't even make it to joe judge brown
