Well, due to slavery, a lot of people from Latin America are of mixed heritage (African and Spanish). So she can claim both sides, and I believe she affiliates herself with both Black and Latino.

yeah to the slavery stuff but I know Juanita Escovedo is Black, creole from Louisiana--so that makes Sheila and siblings bi racial so she can claim black through her mama, if she wants too wink

yeah, but a lot of people think sheila is rican...

and besides that, a lot of ricans and cuban's deny their african lineage....

remember the fuss that was made when whoopie was named to play celia cruz....

well hot damn, celia looked about as african as african can get...just like whoopie...

never understood the fuss..we all came from the same place.....

Can't say I know personally. This one is new to me, though she does seem to have some physical traits of that lineage. Actually, looks like a nice blend of more than one. Kinda like Sheila E.

Sheila E, black??? confused

lol isn't it funny how there is always some racial/ethnic confusion with Prince and his proteges?

Sheila's father is Mexican-American.Her mother is Creole, which is a mixture of Black and French. As she once said,"I'm basically a mutt".

You're right. I was just reading an article about her in a back issue of JazzTimes.
