DavidEye said: 1986 was the year that Doctor & The Medics stormed the charts from no where and as quickly, disappeared. However Clive, who was the lead vocals, formed the group in the early 1980’s. Their look was inspired by the 1960’s psychedelic era incorporated with a gothic image and sound. Clive’s face would be white, similar to that of Gene Simmons from ‘KISS’. Their first single was to be their biggest, a cover of Norman Greenbaum’s ‘Spirit In The Sky’. It was meant to be a tongue in cheek, novelty record but the success of the single actually lead to their downfall, as people could not take them as a serious band. They were tagged as a gimmick like ‘Cartoons’ were in 1999 with their No 2 single ‘Witchdoctor’. In June of 1996 they released their album ‘Laughing At The Pieces’, which made the British Top 30 but it only remained in the charts for 3 weeks. a psychotic is someone who just figured out what's going on

There ya have it. I actually prefer this version over Norman Greenbaum's earnest version.

Stax, here's another...
...Sigue Sigue Sputnik Led by former Generation X member Tony James, the new wave group Sigue Sigue Sputnik raised selling out to an art form. The concept behind Sigue Sigue Sputnik was simple: the band adopted a postmodern, ironic style and sound, and marketed it to the hilt, saturating the media with slogans and interviews. James didn't even intend the band to be musical; www.allmusic.com They'd probably be successful today using that same marketing concept. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

80s Flashback of the Day? How about the quote above: "I want to see some asses wigglin'... I want perfection!"
Sigue Sigue Sputnik...humor. How about some Nina Hagen? Listening to some of the "new" music out I hear my beloved 80s. My teens and college years were spent there, so... Oh, 80s Flashback of the Day for real? "If a Girl Answers..." and the long version of "777-9311"...Grace!

Wendy O... ...was gonna be next on my list! How's this... ...for a pair? tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm Back in 80's, I admired Wendy for being bold and giving her all for her craft. Also, I thought one of her guitarists Jean Beauvoir was cute too. [Edited 5/14/05 12:18pm]

The manufactured hype associated with SSS was unmatched in the 80's. Good call. a psychotic is someone who just figured out what's going on
