Any Paul Simon fans round here?

Not a name much mentioned round here, but here goes - who likes Paul Simon/ Simon and Garfunkel? Paul Simon imo is one of the great singer songwriters of the last 40 years and possibly my favourate lyricist. He is also an underrated guitarist (he toured solo a lot in Britain in the early-mid '60s pre S & G and is a good 'folk guitarist'.

Fav Simon albums

The Rhythm of the Saints
Graceland
You're the One
Hearts and Bones

I'm less into S. & Garfunk but still dig a lot of their singles.

What ya'll think?

PS no boring posts please about how he 'stole black African/ South American music and made loadsa money for himself' like some of those tedious Elvis posts. All the African musicians who've worked with Simon seem to respect him and have gained notoriety by playing with him.

I love the Graceland album, but I haven't heard too much of his other work. There is one of his songs they play on our work tape where he says "stepped outside and smoked myself a J." Does anyone know what song that is?

"Late in the Evening"

Not so big on S&G, but love Paul Simon. One of our greatest songwriters.

Paul Simon is one of those legends of the business that I've just never been able to get into. He's got some good songs, but his music has just never been something I've ever had the urge to go out and buy.

Based on the songs I like from each period...

Simon & Garfunkel:
Sounds Of Silence
I Am A Rock
Scarborough Fair
Homeward Bound
59th Street Bridge Song
The Dangling Conversation
At The Zoo
Mrs. Robinson
Fakin' It
America
El Condor Pasa
Cecilia
The Boxer
Bridge Over Troubled Water

Paul Simon:
Mother And Child Reunion
Me And Julio Down By The Schoolyard
Kodachrome
Loves Me Like A Rock
Still Crazy After All These Years
50 Ways To Leave Your Lover
Slip Slidin' Away
Late In The Evening
One-Trick Pony
Nobody
The Boy In The Bubble

...it's fairly balanced between the two.

However, I prefer the Simon & Garfunkel set.
Art Garfunkel's voice adds something extra to the material.

Great songwriter.

I have a 'best of' Simon and Garfunkel and 'Graceland'.

Not too fond of the first one, I only play it when I want to hear easy melancholic tunes. 'Graceland' is great though! thumbs up!

I LOVE paul simon, growing up i was never really into him, or simon and garfunkle for that matter, but after i met my wife, it sort of rubbed off on me, i feel very lucky to have been able to see them perform last year at the MCI center in DC, i was way up in the cheap seats but the performance still felt wonderfully intimate, that's the mark of a truly great performer to make the show feel one on one even when your're surrounded by thousands, and Paul Simon can do that.

I like Paul. Equally strong with and without Garfunkel.

His "Capeman" CD from 1997 is seriously underrated. I feel that it contains some of his best work (and Mark Anthony and Ruben Blades sing on a few tracks as well as Simon ). Unfortunately, it was tied into the Broadway Musical that he wrote, which was a enormous flop, though all the reviewers praised the music in the show

Paul's stuff is great and it puts me in a good mood.

I still really like "Capeman" which was a musical he attempted and failed with about a kid from a gang in NYC that killed someone and made headlines in the 50's.
