Mariah's Careys face??? Okay, I saw the video for "We belong together" this morning. Is it me, or does her facial structure look different? She looks more ethnic than usual. Don't get me wrong she looks good, but something is different about her. Has she had surgery or something? Wussup with her face?

She's gained weight that's probably why it looks different.

maybe shes had botox that would make her look different

To me the difference in her appearance is the difference that takes place to everyone between the early 20s and mid 30s. This is not to say that she has had something done. With her amount of money and vanity, I am sure she has had some touch ups.

i don't know. I can't pinpoint it. Her facial structure looks different. Like her face has been broken, and reconstructed. Her jawbones look different. She looks more ethnic now. She used to look like a total white woman. (not anything bad)

I used to think she was a vey light skinned Black woman until they said was mixed. To me, I actually think she looks a little how she used to look. She looks healthy and that's a great thing. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I saw a pic of her in a womans gossip magazine here in the UK (Heat maybe?)
She had a face like a spacehopper, bloated, fat and orange. She looked really bad.

Same here, i'd no idea she was part black until about two years ago. found that out here i think. Guess that's what happens when your packaged/marketed as she was originally. "A voice to rival Whitney, and she's WHITE". I wish i could remember the station or music magazine in the UK that said that. (might have been Radio One, Top Of The Pops on BBC1, Q or even the NME.) Did anyone else think she was white too? I'm a bit embarrassed i thought she was. [Edited 5/13/05 14:02pm]

Hate to say it, but I get that vibe from her, too.

When Mariah debuted, I and a LOT of other Black people knew that she was bi-racial. There was just something about her face and hair (curly & Brown) that tipped me off at least. She never has looked like nor did I buy the Sony marketing spin of "the little white girl with the big soulful voice"!
I do believe that Mariah was coached and told NOT to reveal her racial identity by the label BUT I also believe that she has a lot of issues regarding her race and how she & her family were treated while she was growing up. I saw her on Ellen today and think that she has had something done to her nose and coupled with her new weight, her face does look a little different to me. Also the uber-blonde hair IS NOT WORKING for her - I wish she'd go honey blonde if she must be blonde.

Why would someone as young as her have Botox done? How old is Mariah, anyway? 35 or something like that? that's long in the tooth in the minds of the rich and beautiful! Anyhow, those celebrities are crazy for the Botox. Ive heard from some folks that have relatives in dermatology and plastic surgery that out in Hollyweird and such it's becoming more and more common to have Botox at younger and younger ages - they think it'll prevent any new wrinkles from forming (besides getting rid of any wrinkles already present) I think it's crazy. Leave yer damn faces alone. Who wants to look like a frozen corpse (i.e. Priscilla Presley!)

F--- Mariah Carey, Tiger Woods, Michael Jackson, O.J., and all these "pseudo-black" celebrities. Beret's 100% right. Like Mariah,I grew up on mostly white Long Island and had to with racial B.S. too. I'm light-brown, but I never had any issues with my blackness - I embrace it and I'm damn proud of it. And if Tajeznah's right, shame on Mariah & Sony for playing that game. As far as I know, Alicia Keys never tried to 'hide'. That's why I respect her so much. [Edited 5/13/05 22:46pm]

[Edited 5/13/05 14:02pm] why embarrased? she does not look black one little bit, its not a hard mistake to make. i didnt know she was mixed until i found out on here too. when my sister told me a couple weeks before i started coming to this site, i was like 'nah, no way. she must be mixed as in half white half latino' but yeh, then i came on here and found out otherwise. i think she never mentioned she was half black, cos no one would believe her.

I like some of Mariah's stuff, but as far as her persona I get this vibe that if it were 1905 instead of 2005 she would be one of the main blacks "disappearing into the white community" -- never to be heard from again. There are a few books that deal with the subject of really "light" blacks who would basically abandon the black community altogether if their skin warranted them the opporunity because of stigma and racism. They'd erase all familial ties, move to another state and "melt" into white society. And about Alicia Keys, I thought it was funny/cool that she was trying to put on skin tanning cream and cornrow her hair the first album to show she was really "down with us" ::strikes '80s B-Boy pose::
