Alanis' is not, and she is forgotten.

Nobody has forgotten Alanis. She's still a household name. The end.

Another '90s MTV alterna-artist thwarted to perpetual VH1 rotation.

...and Tommy Mottola.

You mean Tommy bought those 150 million albums she sold?

Anyway, please tell me what songwriting and artistic talent Gwen shows besides being able to sing reasonably well? Her lyrics are ridiculously childish. She doesn't produce. She sings about Vivienne Westwood and uses mute Japanese women-children as gimmick props. Her songs have 3 topics: fashion, Gavin, gender-related angst. She samples Fiddler. Enough said.

Wayyy late in responding to this since the thread ballooned 10-times over.

You have to admit that Tommy Mottola was instrumental in the early shaping of Mariah's now-historic '90s track record. Those strings of 99ยข cassingles surre didn't fallback via WAL-MART*! Somebody was subsidizing singles to generate the hits, and that, my friend, was Mr. Mottola.

Once again, Gwen detractors, you're negating the woman's 10+ year stint in No Doubt. You can't make a holistic assessment of the girl WITHOUT acknowledging her history and contributions to that band. Gwen has a distinctive mezzosoprano and she does have nice songwriting talent. "Don't Speak" was a well-written pop tune. Her verities largely center around doey-eyed exultations of captured love and eventual ex-boyfriend lament, but she manages to own it, get into that moment and carve out tunes that stay with you. She shined on Kingdom -- yes. But, lyrically her finest moments came with 2000's Return of Saturn (which was widely-praised by critics at the time, but the general public tended to forget how well-written this album was).

She's just hot, that's all...she has a lot of energy and a lot of the teenie boopers can relate to her...she also seems (anyone else agree?) kind of gay...or she caters towards that crowd...not that there is anything wrong with that - just an observation.

Gwen sucks.
The ORG - the only place where you can be called a wigger, a racist and a Nazi and be banned for defending yourself. It's so hard being white nowadays...

Proud to be a NONA GAYE fan!

How can any Prince fan dislike "Hollaback Girl"???

That song is almost a direct homage to "Housequake"

And if you dislike "Housequake"....well...

Still it's nice to know, when our bodies wear out, we can get another

I would add my two cents, but I already know that someone would take it personal and flame me for having an opinion.
