The truth is, I have such strong love and admiration for the man himself and his earlier work that it kept me hanging on after everyone else I knew jumped ship. I still enjoy all his work after the major style change in 1985 but don't consider it as absolutely "great" like before the change. The fact that I don't find "Parade" and "Sign O The Times" the masterpiece that they do, it rattles a lot of cages over there. Some of them really get bent out of shape, but hey, who cares.
