Jacko has a tendancy to repaet himself so many times on tv performances it becomes dull. Like the american music awards 1993. He did a stunning perfomance of "dangerous", then at MTV awards in 1995, he did the same routine to "dangerous". Shame.

hammer is more versitile then u think people. Its just the fact u didn't see the videos to "this is the way we roll" "count it off" "good to go".

I saw it!!!!!

Hammer shoulda challenged someone like bobby B. Mike was just too big for hammer.

What hammer's best live performance?

? I only got a couple now. "pray" at some awards show was cool. He went out right into the audience (as did his dancers). "u cant touch this" on the grammies was cool. People think hammer is all short quick cuts of moves. But some know he did a great stage show. I was only 6 when I saw his tour (I swear boyz to men were the opener). Incredible show, though i remember very little.

Hammer is shi* there is no wayyyyy that he could beat Mike in a dance off back then or now even.

On VH1 once i watched a documentary, (cant remember what about specifically) but they showed Mike in 75-76 performing Dancing Machine and I tell u this,It was EXCEPTIONAL The robot and the slide he did during that perfomance ALONE would wipe Hammers ASS!

If y'all really wanna see Mike at the peak of his powers then check out the entire Bad era that is his greatest era performance wise ever.Hammer couldnt even breathe the same air as him during that time or even in 1991. Thats why Mike at the end of Black or White is dancing in the street tapping and spinning that was a direct slap in the face 2 Hammer following the disrespect he garnered in that flaccid Too Legit vid.

The Too legit video came out, Hammer tried 2 make it epic and like a mini movie like Michael had pioneered but failed. It featured bit part players in entertainment like Ralph Tresvant,Jim Belushi etc even in that he was copying Mike but Mike could call up A-Listers like Spielberg,Aykroyd, Danny Glover, Travolta, and any one who was anyone in 1989 when he made the Liberian girl video
and they jumped at the chance... he could get Scorsese 2 direct a MUSIC VIDEO 4 goodness sakes!!!!!.

Work with George Lucas and Coppola 4 Captain EO, Hammer made the Please Hammer Dont Hurt Em movie lol.that went straight 2 video lol.

I think we're missing the point here. At the time the challenge was issued Hammer was hot and MJ had been stuck doing the same stiff choreography he had been doing since Thriller. At that point in time Hammer would have won a dance-off. Whatever talent MJ had as a kid and young man had not been nurtured and he was just a shadow of himself.

MJ lost all credibility when he got on stage at some awards show (NAACP or something like that) and lip-synched his way through a song while "dancing" in a chair. At that point I knew it was over. It was bad enough that he didn't look at all like his former self, but he didn't even have the ability to perform that he once had.

Looking back on it it's easy to say MJ would've won because his career dwarfs Hammer's but I remember thinking at that time that it wouldn't have been close (and I had already begun to think of Hammer as a sellout by that time).

Jacko has a tendancy to repaet himself so many times on tv performances it becomes dull. Like the american music awards 1993. He did a stunning perfomance of "dangerous", then at MTV awards in 1995, he did the same routine to "dangerous". Shame.

On Mike you have serious good points...

Hell yeah, Mike loves repeating himself (not only on his performances but even in his concerts)... And I hate that...

BUT NO WAY HAmmer is close to MJ, NO WAY... He has No creativity and starting to suck after his second album... Hammer was just an impersonator of James Brown nothing more, same moves, and same gimmicks...

MJ instead dominates the game during 15 years (from Thriller to Dangerous) After Dangerous he started to suck... You can see all the videos during the History era, they all suck...
This is why History doens't sell that much....

Musically, I like the song a lot but its subject matter is absolutely pathetic (an Afro-American who doesn't even resemble his heritage anymore for whatever reason fatuously blaming his plights on racism, something he continues to do to this day) and both versions of the video just add insult to idiocy, especially the prison version.

Repeatedly shoving footage of the maltreatment of blacks and Jews in the viewers' faces while showing off his bravado using his chicken-hawk chest and dance moves and shouting "HOOOO!!!" multiple times... not my idea of a true visual accomplishment.

I WILL agree, however, that "Scream", "Earth Song", and "SIM" are all excellent videos (despite the former two being overblown as hell). smile

Hammer did dance like JB. But I never saw JB do the running man though or the typewriter (which is very JB). I just love his energy and moves in general. They are quite ridiculous at times which is something that dance videos lack in general. That is funny moves and orginal ideas. I think hammer had them

I really dont like much of "please hammer dont hurt them". Too many tracks are sampled. He even remade "dancing machine". But "too legit too quit" album uses real horns whoch puts it head and shoulders over "please hammer dont hurt 'em". Plus no samples.

Thing is, alot of hammers famous stuff uses synths and drums which are now considered dreadfully dated and cheesy. It was just the producton at the time. Shit like "count it off" and "this is the way we roll" is very JB in feel.

WHEN IT COMES TO DANCING, HAMMER COULD, CAN, AND WILL OUT DANCE MIKE AND THAT'S ON THE REAL. OF COURSE MIKE CARREER IS MORE SUCCESSFUL, BUT HAMMER IS A STREET DANCER. MICHEAL PAID LOCAL STREET DANCER IN L.A. TO TEACH HIM HOW TO MOONWALK(READ IT IN RIGHT ON MAG), AND HE WAS NOT THE FIRST TO DO THE MOONWALK ON T.V.. JEFFREY DANIELS FROM SHALAMER DID IT ON SOUL TRAIN A FEW YEAR PRIOR TO MIKE. MJ IS MY MAN, BUT AS STATED BEFORE HE'S BEEN DOING THE SAME MOVES FOR DECADES. HAMMER KNOWS ALL THE LATEST DANCES, MIKE STILL DOING THOSE TIRED ASS SPINS. DON'T GET ME WRONG, I'LL CUT A BITCH OVER MIKE AND PRINCE BUT HAMMER IS THE BEST DANCER. NOW WHEN IT COMES TO RAPPING omg

clapping I've been saying this for years! They Don't Care About Us is one of the most patronizing songs/videos of Jacko's career (and there have been quite a few). Both versions of the video are insulting in different ways; Michael is a victim and in jail, or Michael is this pale white savior in the streets of Brazil. Please!

The "Funky Headhunter" album is what really made Hammer look like a joke. He switched his style and tried to act all gangsta - around that time he was rolling with DeathRow. Anyway it was quality record, but it should be dismissed as crap as well cause Hammer was frontin' hard.

Omk fair enough. biggrin But Prince as a dancer eek He tries bles him, and that does add alot to the shows themselves (when he use to dance).....one of my all time fav choreography wise music videos is "cream". He dances well in "batdance" too. His best dancing tour wise was "diamonds and pearls" tour. Man that show was awesome.

yeah hammer was a sellout. But hammer is more genuine then say ice cube or ja rule. Hammer grew up working class too. He just chose to take it positive and do his own "mr entertainer" thing. I thought the album "finky headhunter" would be sweaty parachute pants, but it's a great lil' album. I can dance to "dont stop" all day. Roger did a good remix of that cut.

I mean, I like Hammer and I have the utmost respect for him and I always have, but he was str8 up frontin during the "Funky Headhunter" era. He was sellout, not cause he was doing too much (cartoons, commericals, etc.) but because of he switched to fit with the mainstream hard image. It just wasnt him.

yeah hammer was a sellout.

LOL Hammer couldn't win. People called him a sellout after the sucsess of "please hammer dont hurt 'em" as hammer went pop and mechandised everything. Rappers were in a daze. Since hammer, I have not seen a rapper figurine etc.....except the white clone vanilla ice, who I think is crap.....

.....Ice proberly let hammer down. As when u think of ice, u think of hammer and vice versa and how they both sucked. But ice was alot weaker in every department to hammer. And hammer was weak in some areas anyway (his flow lol )

hammer had a bainwave of seeling hiphop to the widest audience possible. Yeah sure kid and play and fresh prince were kid friendly, but they still had the street image. Hammer, on his second album, musta just thought "fuck them all, Iam doing this my way". Good for him, even if "please hammer don't hurt 'em" is his weakest album.

But after that album, he tried to be serious and say he was still "legit". He really couldn't win. He shortened his name to get cred (why?).....nothing worked, so by "funky headhunter", he just went with the latest trend. Which is what virtually everyone else does anyway.

Hammer also got hate for opening the door to ice etc.....u could lebel them the "we dont care we dony have street cred" rapper tha was arounf in 1990.

They included hammer, vanilla ice (no one beleived he was street surely), marky mark, gerardo. ll were sucessful for a while. All tried to be legit, but everyone could see through that. Ha, marky mark. Theres an album that hasn't dated as badly as u think. Think public enemy hank shocklee ripoffs and ur there.
