New CD/DVD Format Sucks!

Just bought the new Rob Thomas and Bruce Springsteen, which are surprisingly good and the new format with cd on one side and dvd on the other doesn't allow me to burn them. Hmmmmm.....maybe they are on to something.....does anyone know how to get around this one?

So...ain't this a good moment to buy a SACD player? hmmm

I meant to buy a DVDA + SACD player in the near future but all these new formats get me mad.

Anybody well informed on the matter?

I'm a little confused. Is the problem that you can't burn copies, or that you can't rip the audio onto your computer?

I burned a copy of Bruce's CD for a friend a few days ago with no problem. What is happening when you try to burn it?

Well hasn't burning CDs been prevented by the new discs out now anyway. I htink they suck because now you don't have cover art and the fact that they are being forced on consumers (it looks like all Sony releases are only going to be available in DualDisc) and of course, it costs two dollars more than a regular CD. They can cram the Dual Disc!

I'm sorry for people who got langauge issues, but fuck that!
Remember MiniDiscs? That was also something Sony (I think exclusively Sony) tried to sell...Did that go anywhere? Yeah!

this isnt really a "fad" though.....its more a tool to get people to actually buy the cds. (it doesnt require new equipment or anything)....im for it. i just think the content needs to be a bit better.....rob thomas' extas were horrible..

they need real documentaries on those things.....something equal to what movie dvd's offer...

To cover your *current bases (CD, SACD, & DVD-Audio) you'll need to get a Universal Player.

They can range from a $500 Onkyo DV-CP802 (the audiophile crowd would commit mass suicide before they'd get caught with one of these in their listening rooms) to a $13,000 Esoteric UX-1.

*According to audio industry rumblings, your current bases won't be current for long.

I like Dualdiscs. I get to hear the albums in 5.1 surround sound on my DVD player without having to buy an SACD player.

The next format war involves Blu-Ray (Sony, Matsushita) vs HD-DVD (Toshiba, NEC).
These are two competing high-capacity disc technologies designed to accommodate HDTV reproduction.
(Blu-Ray = 50 gigabytes per disc vs HD-DVD = 30 gigabytes per disc)

Initially, this is targeted at video reproduction but you know that music will be affected eventually.

Hence, another set of disc formats that today's current players aren't compatible with.

The problem is, they won't give you more extras and they'll still expect you to pay the two dollars more! I think it's a fad. Remember when it was a huge deal for CDs to be enchanced. That's fine, but I don't think it actually interferred with the CD format. If this makes all CDs shorter, than it in fact does intfer with that! We'll just have to wait and see. All I know is, I'm sticking with the regular CDs for as long as I can.

I know, that was awful. But it was funny. Seriously, I can't imagine that all artists are going to trade one minor advancement (the DVD side) in order to place a major restriction (a 60 mintue time limit). Some artists will be bitching about this one very soon!
