Funeral
by The Arcade Fire

Wow!

I - like many other listeners - upon first hearing this album, insisted I hadn't been so excited about a new band for ages. Without question one of the greatest debuts albums ever. Highly original. Combine the Talking Heads and early Bowie with Pixies, then throw in strings, piano and an accordion for good measure - and you merely scratch the surface. Been listening for a good 3 months now... still astonishing. Easily the best album of 2004 - a year filled with goood releases.

Gorgeous

This is the best album i have heard in a long time, possibly ever. I don't ever remember being this excited about a new band. It hit me the first time i listened to it, the music is so beautiful and emotional, i can't believe they are this good on their debut album!
Kevin K gave it a10:
"Funeral" is one of the few albums that actually deserves a "10". Consider early 80's "The Cure", modified by better "lo-fi" production, more dynamic musical score, and an unbelievable raw energy, and you'll get an idea of what this album is like. This album is solid from top to bottom. There is nothing revolutionary about this album; it's simply one of the best "indie rock" albums you'll ever hear. This album is only surpassed by their live shows.

Le doy un 9 porque estoy segura de que todo se puede mejorar. En cualquier caso es un conjunto de canciones magnéticas. Mágica ensoñación vocal y soñora... Perdonad que haya escrito en español; mi inglés es terrible.
rousselle m gave it a10:
Absolutely the most beautiful thing I have heard in ages. It grow better with every listen. Makes me feel the power that really great music does have- the power to really make me- feel.
Dan C gave it a10:
Simply one of the greatest of all time. Not to mention that it is their debut. But the album fails in comparison to their powerful carthatic shows that will you speechless. Simply put this album is meant to change your fucking life. And it will.
Tim M gave it a10:
OMFG ORGASM!
Konstantinos C gave it a10:
Art and power in an out-of-time and out-of-styles record ! Excellent !
Bob E gave it a10:
This record is one of those infrequent masterpieces. A novel yet familiar sound, mixing atmosphere with thought provoking lyrics and accessibility. A gem.
Marc-Andre B gave it a9:
It's probably the best album i've heard this year...and we are in april!!! It's been a while that i've been shivering listening music. For a debut album, i have one word: SOLID! My disc player is having a rough time these days because of this CD... it's really addictive. Bravo!!!
John M gave it a9:
Only had itn three days but im already researching this band every whilst i sit here and do nothing at work. Pisses all over all these shite NME hyped bands such as Kaiser Chiefs, Franz Ferdinand and The Others (truly awful). Beautiful, engaging music. Overtaken Interpol as my favourite band.
bobo m gave it a10:
The best Pop-Wave album of the decade.
Laika H gave it a10:
I DONT KNOW HOW I LIVED WITH OUT THIS ALBUM!! This is the best album, and quite possibly the best band, I have ever heard. The serious foot-stomping tune of Power Out(Nbr #3) is mesmerizing and Rebellion is an amazing song
Magnus V gave it a9:
An excellent CD. Great catchy lyrics, vocals, and insturmentals. Good depth. A tad pretentious though, and Regine Chassagne's voice is irritating. Look for Neighbourhood #1 (Tunnels), #3 (Powerout), #4 (7 Kettles), Crown of Love, and Rebellion (Lies).
a g gave it a10:
Probably the best of all the new albums this year so far, an outstanding achievement.
Paul McK gave it a9:
Great stuff, a Wonderful mixture of styles & instruments, emotions & lyrics.
Josh O gave it a10:
The best album ever. I love the combination as "va deemee" stated. The accordion and orchestra collaborate perfectly. Butler's lyrics are mesmerizing and every song they have. This is my favorite band now.

amazing
evil gave it a10:
Brilliant, best cd of last year. And there were some great cds last year too.
va deemee gave it a9:
The sparkling combination of a rocking rhythm section, repeating guitars-riffs, folky accordeon+xylophone and oriental sounding violon and the intrigueing singing. This debut album gave me goose-pickles, which is very rare with me (for instance, i had it with boy-u2). It might be a one-day-fly, but still with the joy of the best one-night-stand i've ever had!
LeMolusque gave it a10:
I don't konw how to put this one out of my cd player. I tried the Open button, i also put my stereo and the record in flames, but Win Butler's voice sounds in my head over and over : "and if the storm..."
Jon E gave it an8:
v good
Pascal V gave it a10:
Their intense emotion is not much seen nowdays, sadly enough...
[Anonymous] gave it a10:
The great thing about this website is I know what magazines/websites NOT to go to for reviews. Dusted Magazin & PopMatters, The Onion, and Billboard (!) suck. Seriously, what is wrong with these people? Even the awful Rolling Stone gave this incredible record a (relatively) good review.
Tagomago T. gave it a10:
Beautiful and exhilirating. This is a stunning album.
Adam E gave it a10:
AMAZING! OMFG!
Neil T gave it a10:
The best album I've heard in Indie Pop/Rock for years. I can't stop playing it.
[Anonymous] gave it a10:
Fantastic, fantastic, fantastic....
Tom Y gave it a10:
An absolutely breathtaking and passionate debut.
Jon G. gave it a9:
This album is really quite strong throughout musically and in terms of lyrics (I'm not making any concessions on lyrics. It's all good). This coming from a 'gusher' who has had more than enough experience with 'beauty' and 'originality'.
Ben R. gave it a10:
A great CD... it's just high quality stuff. Original, interesting, and well thought-out. The Arcade Fire rawk. wink
