Does anyone know whatever came of the lawsuit Ingrid filed against Lenny alleging that he stole the song's lyrics from her while they were seeing each other?
If it was settled in her favor then it is likely that the song reflects much more than simply her style. "That...magic, the start of something revolutionary-the Minneapolis Sound, we should cherish it and not punish prince for not being able to replicate it."-Dreamshaman32

NuPwrSoul is correct. The track was lifted in it's entirety by Lenny Kravitz for 'Justify My Love' save for a keyboard track and of course, 'Donna's vocals. However, the drum track from 'S1W', I believe, was lifted from James Brown's 'Funky Drummer', which has been used by so many different artists it'd be impossible to keep track of them all. True it's JB's "Funky Drummer"... though a segment looped with a bass and high note via keyboard to create the track. Lenny took that same track for Justify My Love. That video is by far my favorite from "Music" because it is so edgy and risky. I really love that about her. I also thought that the song could have gone number 1, but Madonna obviously didn't care enough to make a new video, so why should I? My friends still love the song when I play it. What is your favorite of her videos? Mine would have to be "Oh Father." I was disappointed with the video because I feel the song is a powerful, insightful look at being a woman in a male-dominated world."When you're trying hard to be your best, could you be a little less?..."When you open up your mouth to speak, could you be a little weak?"....these are things that women are taught to do,to always be "less superior" than men. Those are some strong sentiments that were not fully expressed in the video. Also, the video uses a dance remix of the song, which dillutes it's effectiveness.

I feel that the video showcases a different emotional reaction to the patriarchy of society- anger. Surely, the song indicates pain and frustration, but the video really brings out the subtle anger that is also present. In a way, it reminds me of a Bjork video or a remix, where an entirely different set of emotions is showcased that would be indicated by the original song itself. I do feel that the song deserves a proper video for its original version as well, but I admire Madonna's courage for doing what she did!
