G-Love & Special Sauce

A friend just burned me a cd of his. I can't quite decide if I like him or he's just annoying.

The guy's got some talent, plays guitar, harmonica, sings, raps, and the music is funky, but he seems a bit of the poser. The melodies are not great.

But the music is good. Like an acoustic blues band playing hip hop. One song is like early Beatles.

He's been around a while, I'm surprised he never really made it with the way he blends hip hop with catchy blues.

Nope, he's an actual signed artist. Been on MTV & played on Saturday Night Live recently with Jack Johnson.

Man, he's been around forever! (ok, well not "forever", but quite a while biggrin ) I remember him being really popular at one point and I believe I saw him at First Ave. back around '92.

Yeah, I saw him in the mid 90's on MTV, and I thought he was a bit of a poser, but I thought he'd be a big star--young white guy rapping & playing guitar. But it never happened. I guess he didn't quite fit any specific format.

But I'm just now listening to a whole cd--The Hustle. Like I said, the music is pretty good. I just don't know if his whole image is for real or if it's just what he thinks is cool to project.
