He was invented because "They" didn't want "Their" kids lusting after Black Artist. Blunt but True. Your talking about elvis as if he's some american idol contestant...he wasn't 'invented', he wasn't some artificial hype created by the industry...He was a freakin' genius that had more talent in one finger than the rest of the world, at that time, combined. He became that huge because he was simpley that damn good. and as were being blunt but true: you don't have to like him or his music,...but if it wasn't for elvis presley we would have been having this discussion on MormonTabernacleChoir.org . it may be true that elvis ows something to 'black music', but h*ll everybody that picked up a guitar or a microphone after elvis ows him their entire career. Elvis may not have actually been "The King", after all, everything he did he borrowed from black artists that came before him, and there were certainly more talented rock n rollers at the time. (though Elvis had the best voice out of the bunch IMO) But without Elvis Presley, rock would likely have never become the phenomena that it did. Everyone that came after owes their careers to Elvis. Elvis = Jackie Wilson The Osmonds = Jackson 5 Madonna = Prince/Michael Jackson New Kids on The Block = New Edition Paula Abdul = Janet Jackson Vanilla Ice = MC Hammer Britney Spears = Janet Jackson Kinda fucked up huh, every era since the 1960's 1) I don't know if I could agree with the first statement in bold. THAT the Big 3 80's icons. 2) The second statement in bold, it should have been: Paula Abdul = Pebbles 3) Janet & Madonna made Britney! Everthing else is 100% true. Just remember that Maurice Starr created NKOTB as a way of getting even with the MCA Records (Universal Records) for taking New Edition away from him.

Same with osmonds New kids was maurice's idea. They struggled for a few years though. No way was britney meant to be another janet? Madonna was brand new as far as I know?

Rock & Roll was already a worldwide phenomenon before Elvis with Bill Haley's Rock Around The Clock in 1955. Finally, saying that everyone owes their career to Elvis afterwards is like saying everyone owes their career to Michael Jackson for the last 25 years cause he brought the video age, that's stupid!

That was the custom down south, just the way it was. Most men given their druthers do end up taking up with little girls. Marvin Gaye,Prince, Muhammad Ali, all had the stature to pick whoever they wanted and they all picked 16 year olds, not much difference really. Older women are screwed up anyway.

No, it's not. Empteevee wouldn't have blown up the way it did without MJ. At the time Bill Haley released Rock Around the Clock, rock n roll was still considered a fad, and may very well have remained so without Presley. I never said Elvis created rock -far from, even -but he made it big. sidenote: Isn't it odd and maybe even a little sad that songs that once caused riots like Rock Around the Clock are in recent years being used on children's shows and Fisher Price toys? I went until I was 15 thinking that song was an Elephant Show original. What was once rebellious is now marketable and kid-friendly. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

That is a popular myth indeed, but it's a myth nonetheless. Elvis, like Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, and other rockers of the day, was influenced by country, gospel, r&b, and the unique sound was a hybrid of all. If one needs to add color to it, that would be white & black gospel, mostly white country, and mostly black r&b. If I had to select one major influence on Elvis it would be the white southern gospel group the Statesmen, both for singing (particularly Jake Hess) and physical movement (particularly James Wetherington).
