I own an original issue of this 1957 Jet magazine; if I had a scanner I'd make better pics as it has a color (not b/w) cover.

What folks say in public and what they say behind closed doors(when the PC monitors aren't on) are two different things. You never know what's in a person's heart, deep down.

Elvis grew up in the Jim Crow south. I'm sure friends & relatives said nasty sh!t about black folks around him when he was a youth. Did that shape his views later on? We'll never know.

My only problem with this tv show is that they act like we've never heard the story when we've heard it a million times.

I guess not, judging by the thread....

"Elvis fucked a fourteen-year-old girl"
"....their wedding, which was probably the day of her 18th birthday."
"How old was he at the time ? Surely no older than 20 , right ?"
"Dude was over 30."

Was this biopic better than that "Elvis and Me" 80s series?

There is nothing definitive and all have significant flaws, however the best available right now are the Kurt Russell "Elvis", the short-lived series "Elvis" w/Michael St. Gerard, and "This is Elvis". These are pretty undisputed as the top 3 biopics.

andyman91 said:

Pricilla said she is positive he had an affair with Ann Margaret.

He absolutely did, and if she wasn't the love of his life she was definitely close to it. The mini this week really shafted her, she's a very classy lady. They never completely lost touch with each other.

uPtoWnNY said:

After Dave Chappelle gets his head straight, he should do an Elvis bit like Rick James.

"I'm ELVIS, bitch!", then Elvis slaps Hamburger James and shoots out the TV.

HAHAHAHAHA lol I've got a favorite blurb on Hamburger James of a fan talking to Marty, one of Elvis' guys:

Fan: Was he the one Elvis hauled off an airplane in Vegas for lifting the infamous Priscilla photos?

Marty: Yes, along with one of Elvis' rings and one of his blank checks.

Fan: Yeah, one of my favorite stories from Revelations, it says:
"So Elvis, in this big, dramatic move, ran out on the tarmac and
flashed his narcotics badge that Nixon got him and stopped the damn plane.
They pushed the steps back up to it and opened the door, and Elvis marched
into the cockpit and told the pilot he couldn't take off unless he surrendered
the suspect. And Elvis dragged James off that plane by the back of the neck.

He got him out to the car, and he started reading him his rights. He
said, 'James, you have the right to remain silent, you have the right to an
attorney...' And then he couldn't remember any more of the Miranda, so he
just said, 'And you have the right to all the rest of that shit. Get the fuck
in the car'"

Fan: I hope E kicked his ass

Marty: He didn't but Red, Sonny and Elvis scared the shit out of him.

After they put him back in the car to take him back to the hotel to talk to
him, he thought they were going to take him out in the desert and bury him
in a hole.

Absolutely. The closest we can get are statements from the folks that were around him a lot and that's true for any of us. And people can lie about what's in their own heart anyway, so much of what it boils down to is simply how we all treat people, how we behave.

Not to change my prior answer, just thoughts in a different direction.

Your comment "when the PC monitors aren't on" - that 2005 thinking about this circumstance - is incredibly misplaced when applied to Elvis Presley OF Memphis IN 1957. Given those same Jim Crow laws, the rampant segregation and racism of the time, why in the world should Elvis Presley have even been talking to Jet magazine? He was still a target of segregationists and reactionary media and officials - what powerful figures were supposed to be so impressed by Elvis Presley talking to Jet magazine and having those pictures published in 1957? Economically - did white middle class parents heave a sigh of relief over this feature and run out and buy his records for their kids? Did Elvis need black Jet readers to keep him out of the poorhouse? Rhetorically - not personally -... WTF?

If Elvis Presley hadn't been doing things like meeting with black reporters from Jet magazine he probably wouldn't have been drafted and his life would have continued much more to his liking.

i believe that elvis wasnt a racist, but i do think he was a peadophile (well theres proof in the fact that he dated a 14 year old girl), and trust me i am a huge fan of elvis, but even though he didnt have sex with priscilla until they were married, priscilla has said that they did have oral sex before she was 18. that is still peadophilia, even if it was consentual.

No, you are seriously misunderstanding pedophilia and confusing it with often-changed government "age of consent" laws. A pedophile is a person who is sexually attracted to prepubescent/pre-puberty children. There is no connection between pedophilia and dating post-puberty teenagers.

ahhh, yes there is. its against the law for anyone over the age of 18 to have sexual relationships with a person below 16. you can go to jail if caught. elvis was well over 18 and and priscilla was under the age of 16. it is classified as pedophilia

Wow. Did you even read my post, or make an effort to check for yourself? You just gave a nice description of one age of consent law, which is not btw the same in every state.

Pedophile, Pedophilia

Pedophile: From two Greek words: "pedo" means "child;" and "philia" means "love for." This is a word whose meaning is changing. In the past, it referred to an adult who is sexually attracted to pre-pubescent children -- often those who fall into a specific age range, like 5 or 6. Currently, it is evolving to mean a person who sexually molests pre-pubescent children.

Psychosexual disorder in which there is a preference for sexual activity with prepubertal children.

The condition of people (either adult or adolescent) whose primary sexual attraction is toward prepubescent children.

American Psychiatric Association: Over a period of at least 6 months, recurrent, intense sexually arousing fantasies, sexual urges, or behaviors involving sexual activity with a prepubescent child or children.

It's unfortunate that you don't know what puberty is or what pubescent means, however I don't think this thread is the place for a lesson in basic biology and adolescent development. Or perhaps you're just trolling, I don't know.

There simply is no dispute on the definition of pedophile so I won't address this further. Nor is there any dispute that Elvis was attracted to sexually mature teens and adult women, not to children, so I won't address that further either.

Damn, that cat was whacked out. See, this is the sh!t I want to see on TV. Not that sanitized crap they peddle to us.

There's no scarier group of people than hardcore Elvis fans. They make Trekkies look normal. Howard Stern played tapes of Fans at Graceland, and it was frightening. I mean, they had an excuse for all of Elvis' wild behavior. One cat said Elvis was the King of his religion. OMFG.....

HAHAHAHAHA how redunkulous! That 'secret' tape was on Biography for the zillionth time last week. Elvis is fishing in Biloxi with girlfriend June Juanico in 1956. He's wearing a cap handed to him by the WWII veteran who is piloting the boat. You too can own this SHOCKING footage, courtesy of the DVD retailer near you!

re: on oral, read somewhere that he was very reluctant to give it, but very insistent on receiving it.
Sounds like proof to me! wink Wait, I've read something different! We have an official reading stalemate! eek

Given everything I've read and heard online and out at Paisley over the past dozen or more years, I'm wildly optimistic that Elvis hasn't cornered the market on scary fans. Hey, are you in the market for... "A Famous Face" cool

Your talking about elvis as if he's some american idol contestant...he wasn't 'invented', he wasn't some artificial hype created by the industry...He was a freakin' genius that had more talent in one finger than the rest of the world, at that time, combined. He became that huge because he was simpley that damn good.

and as were being blunt but true: you don't have to like him or his music,...but if it wasn't for elvis presley we would have been having this discussion on MormonTabernacleChoir.org .

it may be true that elvis ows something to 'black music', but h*ll everybody that picked up a guitar or a microphone after elvis ows him their entire career.
It was not in vain...it was in Minneapolis!
