IF U TOOK AWAY 'THRILLER' AND 'PURPLE RAIN', WHO'D HAVE THE BIGGEST CAREER BETWEEN MJ AND PRINCE? I'd have to easily say Prince. If you took "Thriller" away from MJ...does he get the high powered producers for his next project "Bad"? MJ woulda been solid after "Off The Wall" but I don't think he woulda been anywhere near as huge as he was had 'Thriller' never dropped and blew up.
Prince was already making a strong go of it with the success of "DM", "Controversy" and "1999"..."Purple Rain" gave him access to MORE people but his musical talents were already starting to get some recognition and heat. Plus, after 'Thriller'...MJ started to slowly lose sight of reality. Desire, it covers our faces

Never did. Now, do you have an answer? Without them, and their major hit albums, there's no crossover of Black music into the mainstream. Both would have been eclipsed in black music by hip-hop. MJ and Prince would be doing double bills with the likes of "the time", Rick James and such. That's just real.

There would have been others to crossover so to say it woas ONLY MJ and Prince to get a crossover audience isn't correct at all. Cuz in time, White America ALWAYS borrows from Black America, and music has ALWAYS been THE BEST EXAMPLE. Desire, it covers our faces

The crossover of Thriller and later PR was much different then other crossovers in that it blurred the lines of black\white radio and the way blacks were marketed. Black radio and Black specific awards are a thing of the past. 26 million, 14 million, what black artist could sell that many and crossover???? If they didn't crossover they would be relegated to the classic r&b circuit. Thriller and PR changed the face of music. I doubt any other black artist could crossover like that, name one that has done it since.

Well we'd still have the superior Off The Wall and 1999 albums now, wouldn't we?
I reckon it wouldn't be much different.
