Sade´s Lovers Rock album!

Wow, I just bought it this week and I love it. It´s just pitty that there aren´t more fast optimistic songs, but it´s cool. My favourite tracks so far are:
Flos
King of sorrow
Somebody already broke my heart
Every word
Immigrant
Lovers rock
biggrin

Great CD. I love all of Sade's stuff, but this CD is different. Not as lush as "Stronger Than Pride". This is a great CD to unwind to. I also like the fact that she used a lot of acoustic guitar on here too. Can't wait til her next release. smile

nod I couldn't agree with you more. When I am in a mellon colie mood or erotic mood, I really get into her stuff.

I just heard she's suppose to be working on a song with Nas and Kelis. ::shudder:: However, she's never done a song I didn't like so my fingers are crossed.

OK guys, flame me if you wanna, but I think this his her worst album.
And I own evry Sade album, every concert vhs tape and DVD, got some rare concerts from the eighties recorded from TV on vhs tapes, and I love Matthewman´s collaborations with Maxwell and also dig the Sweetback project, short: I´m a hardcore Sade fan, but something is missing here. Maybe it´s the lack of saxophone , maybe the songwriting, I don´t know. Nice album, but by far not her best album.
I still like it, it´s just not my favorite of hers.

No flames from me. I'm curious which is your favorite tho, if you have one. I think I love Lovers Rock because it feels differnt than the previous works but I also enjoy Love Deluxe and Stronger Than Pride . They have a special place in my heart.

My favorite Sade album is Love Deluxe, probably followed closely by Stronger than Pride.
In addition to the points I mentioned above I also find Lovers Rock a bit depressing. I´m all for socially conscious lyrics like in "Immigrant" etc., and I know she´s done songs like that on almost every album, and being born and raised here as a son of immigrants I can relate to it, but somehowthe overall mood is just too tired and depressing. I still like the album though, I was just a bit disappointed because it´s not the kind of album I can listen to a lot.

I guess it´s always easier for me to fall in love with an album when the lyrics are more accessible, like in LoveDeluxe or Stronger than Pride.
And Sade without sax is like pizza without cheese.

Reminds me of how I feel about MeShell Ndegeocello's Bitter. Love it but some of the songs throw me down a flight of stairs emotionally. At times I get so caught up in the music I don't pay attention to the lyrics and realize later that the song is a downer. That's what happened to me with Immigrant.

yeah, me too! I really like the album, I was just hoping for at least one happy optimistic song, but there´s isn´t one. Something fast, like Paradise or something like that.
something is missing here. Maybe it´s the lack of saxophone

yeah, maybe it´s that. I don´t know I am not very much into guitars, so the songs just with acustic quitars haven´t gotten to me yet. But don´t get me wrong I love the album, but I just prefer listening to happy, optimistic music, pitty it´s that depressing. I wonder why. Does anyone know more about Sade? Kooease? I hope her life ain´t as depressing as she sings.

Haven't spun this disc in a HOT minute, but it is a nice LP. "It's All About Our Love" is one of my favorite Sade songs. As are the ones you all have mentioned.

LOVE DELUXE RULES !!!! In my opinion, this was the blueprint for the "neo soul" albums to follow. It still plays smoothly with anything that is on radio NOW !
But i vaguely can compare it with Lovers Rock. but i just get thrown into another world everytime i hear king of sorrow! personal testimony i guess,
but when i hear: ..."I'm crying everyones tears, and there inside my private war i died the night, only the remnants joy and disaster....what am i to do.....
oh man... i need to call my therapist !

I agree, Lover's Rock is a bit more somber than her previous material. Perhaps it was when she was going through her "situation" when she wrote this material. At any rate, I love Sade's work and I buy her CDS just to listen to that lovely sirenesque voice of hers.

i feel the same way. nod

i like it in the same way i like ALL her albums, but i can't put it in the same league as 'love deluxe' or 'stronger than pride'. none of her albums are letdowns in my book, though.

I feel exactly the opposite.

The first couple albums are alright. The singles are cool, but her persona and the sound of them were so distant and uber-sophisticated and cold. With "Stronger Than Pride" I think she really hit her stride. That album is so sexy and warm and beautiful. And I think she just refined it from there. I find more real emotional content on "Lovers Rock" than all of her other work put together. I really needed that one when it came out.

Hi Dag !
No , I´m sorry, I guess I don´t know more than you do...

A friend of mine has a brother who interviewed her years ago, they had dinner together and he said she´s really, really beautiful.

As for her " depressing " life...not to spread any rumors, but all I heard a couple of years ago was :

1- She sometimes lives in Jamaica where she got into trouble with the cops for speeding.
2- Her (ex?)boyfriend also lives there, he´s Jamaican.
3- She got caught with marijuana, but it was no big deal.

That´s all.Doesn´t sound too depressing.

thanks, well it doesn´t. I don´t know why doesn´t she put more optimism into her music like Paradise. I looooove that song.

Anyways, the only thing I know about her is that she had a baby few years ago,r ight?

(http://www.akwarner.com/sade/news.html , i love this guys site..he is just resigned to the fact that sade will dissappear and reappear whenever she damn well pleases..to me, she is the perfect example of how a popstar should conduct themselves....britney, mj, madonna..take note...actually, madge has chilled a lot in old age....good for her.)

Agreed. It sounded very generic and uninspired. You're better of getting The Best of Sade.
