I'm not very familar with the others (I'm familar with them but not a lot of their stuff) but always loved Biz Markie. I remeber watching "Yo! MTV Raps" and always looking forward to his videos on there (mostly "Just A Friend"). I wanted to buy his new one when it came out (was that like a year and a half ago?) but it was expensive and I said I would buy it later. I read one really brutal review on it but I doubt any of his music was that highly regarded by critics. I'd stil like to get it evantually.

Wow, so you're really old skool! I can't say I know much about Kool herc (funny we're talking about him now cuz I was just watching Beat Street last night and he was in it) but I really love Grandmaster Melle Mel! I think he is the best rapper ever! He doesn't get enough credit. How would you compare these new rappers compared to someone like Melle Mel?

What do people think of you listening to these artists today? The girl who does my hair thinks it's hilarious that I listen to old skool. She thinks it just sounds too outdated. Some of it does but I stil love it!

I still rock alot of my Ol School Hip Hop jams on my Launchcast player. What's so funny is alot those same beats are sampled over and over in songs now.

If anybody remembers the song "This Is Something for the Radio" from the 'Goin' Off' album, it had the same bassline as the song in Under The Cherry Moon when Mary was playing the drums at her b-day party.
Was this a Prince song Marley sampled or did someone else write it? ----- Also, I love Biz's stuff, especially Vapors, Just Rhymin' With the Biz and Make the Music..., but he loses a little credibility because Big Daddy Kane wrote almost all of his rhymes early on.

Even if Big Daddy Kane wrote most of his material, it's all good. How can anyone knock the Biz?

The Biz Never Sleeps was one of my favorites. Spring Again, A Thing Named Kim, The Dragon... I wore that tape out but still have the cd somewhere around here.
I'll admit I can't listen to Kurtis Blow or Kid'N Play (I can watch their cheesy movies though). I'll always like Kool Moe, Slick Rick, and Dougie Fresh (with Slick Rick). The Fat Boys pre- Wipeout were cool. UTFO, my namesakes, and Run DMC of course were some of my favorites. I think of them as old school but Kurtis Blow, Grandmaster _____ (fill in the blank with anybody by that name), Sugar Hill Gang and them I consider pre-historic. Some of them have some good songs but their rap styles are so old it's terrible. Kid'N Play got by on their little dancing gimmicks and the songs were fun but the raps weren't that solid.

Kid n' play movies are so funny. They're classic! You don't think Melle Mel had skills? Oh man, I love his voice. Maybe his skills weren't all that but I just love his voice. By the way, I was watching beat street last night and in thelast scene where they have a show in honor or "ramon" Melle Mel came out and my husband noticed how much he looked like Andre3000. Facially and style wise and it's so true. I was thinking Andre was an original but Melle Mel had that freaky style first! I love Melle Mel!

I met Biz at a party sometime back in 1998. He was D.J-ing and moving the crowd real well (although he didn't perform). He was real cool and down to earth and unlike the "Biz" image everyone knows. He talked a lot about the ups, downs, and pitfalls of the music industry. Nice guy...(but he was in dire need of some Speed Stick deodorant-lol).

That's what I've heard about him also. So people told me that he is now living in the Maryland area.
