Stevie Wonder Album delayed INDEFINITELY

I just heard on the radio that yesterday it was announced that Stevie Wonder's new album is delayed indefinitely. Stevie Wonder says that he is very busy and not enough time to get the songs together like he wants to and that he also has a new baby to spend time with. It seems strange to me that he cannot make time to finish the album. I bet it's more the label that doesn't feel confident in the music he has turned in so they have asked him to go back to the lab. I guess we will just have to enjoy "So what's the fuss" for now.

maybe we should look at this way...

'Songs In The Key Of Life' was delayed repeatedly, but I think we can all agree that it was worth the wait.Perhaps Stevie just wants to make another masterpiece? I can be patient.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this on the Org yet but a bloody FANTASTIC article/interview - billed as Stevie's first in 10 years - has just been published in this month's 'Uncut' magazine (UK).

If I get chance, I'll post it but one thing which struck me reading it was this:

despite my moaning about the album delays and Motown's input, Stevie makes a very valid point in the interview. Basically, he talks about waiting for the right inspiration and the right set of songs to reflect his mindset at the time of the album's release.

In some ways, I can now understand why - if Stevie is behind the delays - as frustrating as it is for us fans, why he chooses to hold it back. So much has happened in his personal life in the last year - let alone the last ten - that, as an artist, he must gain new perspectives on life events all the time (as we all do). So imagine being a composer or a writer and thinking "Well insert song title here is the absolute best I can say on that subject" but then, maybe the next day, you find a new, clearer way of expressing your ideas. Maybe one that incorporates the ideas of two songs you've already written. So now you have to write TWO new songs - which combines both themes - and so on. If you had a more 'definitive' version or a new song which expresses something far more strongly that one you'd already planned to release, wouldn't you want to release that one?

I haven't articulated that particularly well and I suppose - at some point - you've just gotta go with the flow and release something (otherwise this cycle would just go on & on & on). But reading it from Stevie's perspective, I can see why the album might still be delayed. At the end of the day, we're all just hungry fans - but it's his legacy, his choice. The exact argument we could apply to Prince and all other artists. If we want the very best from our favourite musicians, maybe we have to be patient. We can't have our cake and eat it. shrug

(That doesn't mean I won't be ramming that creamy cake of an album down my throat the minute it's dropped, of course razz lol )

"Stevie Wonder - What the Fuss" is going to be played on Radio 1 as the new CD burner (I think that's right, I was trying to do ten million things at once in the lab while listening to the radio)
