Nu Metal... ...is it still relevant?
I was talking to a msn buddy about some J-pop we dig and it went all the way to the so called dimise of Nu metal...(weird moment) I my opinion it is dead... Also it didn't have the affect that grunge had on culture and fashion (i miss those days  )..

Nu Metal seemed to be something the record industry and the media "blew up" WAY out of porportion. When Limp Bizkit,Disturbed,and Godsmack got big in 1999/2000, the record labels seemed to sign a bunch of "clone" bands to go along with the "frenzy". (Kinda like the 'hair metal' bands in the 80's.) Now that the Nu Metal sound is getting kind of played out, a lot of Nu Metal screamers are now starting to "sing", and guitar solos are starting to pop up a little. It'll be interesting to see what the "new thing" in rock will be next. | |

Nu Metal sucks arse and i'm so happy it's over and done with. I don't know if you can consider Linkin Park a Nu metal band but it's funny how they've outlasted all the other crap bands. I'm not a fan of their music but some of their stuff is catchy. Also how is it that Bon Jovi of all the hair metal bands outlasted their peers of the hair metal genre? Makes no sense. lol....I'm not a Nu Metal fan either, but Linkin Park's "ReANIMATION" CD is the shit! Tons of remixes and has guests like Pharoahe Monch, Jay Gordon (ORGY), Jonathon Davis (Korn). Their music seems to win over the hip hop heads and some of the metal-hard rockers. Goes to show you that good songwriting is more important than what type of "trend' is hip. | |

]Aside from System of a Down, Disturbed and a couple of others, I never cared for it in the first place. The problem is that a lot of these so-called "Nu Metal" bands lack instrument proficiency. Being able to play well helps in making music that is more memorable and has a lasting impression. People are still analysing "Old metal", trying to understand some of it. There was a band that came out a few years ago called Ra that had an excellent CD that got overlooked by the general masses. There have actually beeen a few bands to get passesd over for trying to carry on the tradition of great songwriting and metal "godism". Seems like the essense of what metal was all about is missing in the newer bands. They just want to play loud and hard, but not WELL. | |

"Everybody's goin' to the party, have a real-good time"....(lol)..I can't get that chorus out of my head. I like System too. Ra is a great band. It's a shame they didn't catch on real big.They have a new drummer from another popular rock band, but I forget who he is.I agree with your statement. Some of these guys get a Rectifier amp and a pierced lip and say "I'M METAL!!", and totally miss the point. It's all about playing well and writing good tunes. | |
