Madonna As An Independent Artist

Ok everybody, I simply want opinions on this(one of those what if threads). Do you think Madonna will ever go independent one day(being the independent spirit that she is). I was thinking to myself that one day she might. I ask for orger opinions as a basis for discussion. Do you think she might get fed up one as LIL MAN, Mariah Carey and several others have and start an independent label without any financial support or backing from a major label? Granted, things are going smooth for her now(with backing from a major) and she may not want to even rock the boat.

Question #2, if she decides to go independent,do you think her transition would be a great and smooth transition(keep in mind, this woman has a keen sense of great marketing and how to promote herself and her music). What do you think would happen to her fanbase? Would it erode? Ok what are yout thoughts, the floor is open for discussion.

Actually,Mariah did not go "independent" after all.She just signed a record deal with Island/Def Jam Records. She gets her own label as part of the deal, but it is a joint venture with Island.

As for Madonna,I don't think she would ever go independent.Being independent means having a much smaller fanbase and selling fewer records.Madonna clearly loves being on top,and I don't think she would jeopardize that by shunning the major labels and going the independent route.

Ok, so I guess that is the latest on Mariah, because last I heard, she was planning to go independent. Kind of figured she wouldn't.

Yeah, she was toying with the idea of going independent. But I knew she would eventually get involved with a major label.

If Madonna went independent, she would market herself better than Prince. She is more popular in the mainstream, so it would naturally be a smooth transition. I do agree that her sales would suffer, but not to the extent that Prince's sales have.

Madonna is too much of a media whore (on her terms, of course) to NOT want the promotion that the machine of the major labels provide. Her style demands too much visual attention that only constant video can provide, and those channels usually play what is pushed by The Machine. She looks to provoke the mainstream and I don't know if that would happen on a large scale since indie music doesn't get the same market share pub. Madonna is about MARKETING, and she knows which side of her bread is buttered.

Anxiety

I'm sure Madge has too much investment tied up in WB to have any reason to leave. She's way too comfortable to go indie for the sake of "cred".

I think she could survive on her own. She's got way too many fans, and she already knows how to play her cards. Definite success I'd say...

Madonna can do anything she wants. But I think she's pretty much set now...and now that she has a family do you think she really wants to deal with that bs? I wouldn't!

she's in a great play in london at the moment and she ACTS !!!

What play is she in, and can she REALLY act in it? I love Madonna, but she's not that great of an actress on the big screen. Maybe she's better in plays?

The play is called "Up For Grabs" and Maddy has been getting some wonderful reviews for her acting. But I agree with you,she is not that great an actress in her own movies.Since we're discussing her,I thought I would share with you some recent news bit,rumors,etc...

***IS MADONNA PREGNANT AGAIN?---this rumor is spreading like wildfire! It's even the cover story on this weeks's issue of Star (the supermarket tabloid). Her reps deny it,but that doesn't mean a thing.I guess we'll know soon enough.

***"ROCK VANITY"??---there is an Internet rumor that Madonna's upcoming album will be a rock record titled "Rock Vanity".That album title sounds unlikely to me,although there may indeed be a song with that title. She has also recorded a version of David Bowie's "Ziggy Stardust" although it may not end up on the final tracklist. They say this album will be released by year's end,but I predict we won't have it until early 2003.There are, simply, too many other projects that are due at year's end(see below).

***JAMES BOND MOVIE CAMEO?---Madonna has recorded the theme song from the upcoming James Bond film 'Die Another Day'.Her song will be released as a single in the fall, just before the movie's November release.Madonna also makes a cameo appearance in the movie, but I have no idea what role she plays.

***SWEPT AWAY---Madonna's own movie "Swept Away" comes out in September. It was directed by her husband (Guy Ritchie, who directed the critically acclaimed "Snatch") and is a remake of an old 1975 Italian film of the same name.
