Songs destroyed by bad memories I saw the Cranberries thread and it instantly made me think about horrible thoughts attached to music. I experienced something really traumatic when the song "Dreams" was playing on a car radio.
Has any song (regardless of its quality -- happy or somber) made you feel bad or think back to a horrible, tragic or sad event? Whenever I hear the song "Smile" by Rene & Angela, I think back to the time my father said he saw someone get his brains blown out at an ATM machine while the song was playing. He can't listen to that song without thinking about it.

"Better Days (the grandma song)" by Diane Reeves
Reminds me of my late grandmother "Secret Garden" by Quincy Jones it's really sad, but this song was playing at a HS dance and a guy i liked did not ask me to dance and I watched him dance w/ another girl whom he happened to like...broke my poor little teenage heart

Louis Armstrong's "What A Wonderful World" has that affect on me. So many of my relatives had that song played at their funerals. Oh, man, this thread is deeper than I thought. I'm getting melancholic.

I have bad memories, but I don't attach them to music.
Or I'm just having a mental block - my psyche is really good at that.

Or I'm just having a mental block - my psyche is really good at that. Music evokes emotion. Songs cull remembrances. Certain songs take me back to certain events, locations and time periods. That's why I can't listen to music when I'm making love. I don't want to remember that person when I listen to that track. It's like they leave an imprint on it — especially if they did me wrong.

In that case, there's quite a few tracks destroyed by bad memories.

There's a song that reminds me of a R E A L bad day
I was on my car, listening to Truth Hurts's "Addictive" song on the radio(back when it was an instant hit). I was enjoying a cup of green tea while driving and basically got carried away with the song, and BAAAM I found myself running into a parked car SO BAD and my burning tea splashed all over my face, my eyes were literally like this O O from horror, and as i was about to step out of the car and.. BRRRRRAAAAAM!! Another fuckin' car came from the back and hit mine even BADLY so we ended up 3 pretty cars chained together, Oh and whatever left from my tea got splashed all over my clothes Well, there it is BTW JANFAN4L, nice seeing you posting here again, chile

Fade Into You by Mazzy Star
This song reminds me of how I was trying to pull every once of myself togther after I found out that my grandmother had a stroke and would never be healthy again. It makes me so sad.

I hate to say this, but many if not most of my favorite love songs of all time are attached to bad memories. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

(Harlepolis' story reminded me)
An album that was playing when I crashed and wrote off my last car has continued to have diminished enjoyability due to the memory attached to it.

Sometimes songs are the best things to come out of bad relationships. I got turned on to the song "I Wanna Be The One" by Stevie B from someone I now strongly despise, but I love the track. Great Freestyle cut.

Even worser than the dancers on Kylie's tour prancing around in glow-in-the-dark speedos to "Your Disco Needs You"? Just the description alone by other orgers destroyed the song for me.

aw dude Or, paradoxically, I didn't truly appreciate some songs until I fell for someone who ultimately rejected me. The funny thing is, I can hear those songs and remember 1) feelings I had for that someone, 2) how the song made me think about that someone, and 3) the rejection itself. Some songs I caught on to AFTER the deed was done, but they're still meaningful. Examples of these kinds of songs: "Adore" -- Prince "And God Created Woman" -- Prince "Living For The Love of You" -- The Isley Brothers "My Life" -- Mary J. Blige "Kiss From A Rose" -- Seal " Can't Make U Love Me" -- "Old Friends 4 Sale (original) -- Prince and the Revolution "Lost In You" -- Chris Gaines "Fly Me To The Moon" -- Frank Sinatra "Fool of Me" -- Me'Shell Ndegeocello "Valse" -- Bill Evans "I'll Do Anything" -- Ginuwine "Everything's All Right" -- J.C. Superstar "Sincerity" -- Me'Shell Ndegeocello Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016
