I agree too. I think what origmnd means is "mainstream" music, the stuff that we see on MTV/VH-1 and hear on the radio. Indie artists are as good as they ever were!! Yea I think this person means is popular, mainstream music. I agree in mainstream it is all recycling,there is no originality anymore, even when it comes 2 marketing themselves: lending their name 2 things, it is always a hair product, makeup, coke/pepsi, clothing lines, etc. it seems like thats all their is 2 do. | |

Even if you do find anything current that is good, no one else knows about it. If no one else knows about it then there will be no clubs worth a damn either. I'm age 37 and I'm in the "forgotten" generation (as far as music goes) so to speak. I'm too old for hip hop clubs and too young for blues clubs. Most people my age are married with children. I'm single with no kids, no dog, no white picket fence, no damn station wagon, and I wish to keep my situation just the way it is. A whorish motherfucker like me needs clubs to party in. The only reason I go to clubs nowadays is to get laid. I go to clubs that play house music, but it has all turned to techno now and it's very repetitive and all sounds alike. It didn't used to be like that. I used to go to party, dance, and have a good time and if I got laid, that was an extra bonus for the night. No, I don't doubt there's good stuff out there but the radio stations need their damn asses beat for not playing it. I'm in the very same boat as you are, except that I rarely go out to clubs anymore because around me, they are way too expensive to go to on a regular basis ($20 cover charges and $8.00 beers). Also, the people in the clubs are a different generation than I am, and all they want to do is hang out in big groups. Occasionally they want to hook up for quick sex, but god forbid that you may actually want to "date" some of these people. I didn't think dating as a couple was such a big deal unless you were ready to move in and live together, but to these youngsters, it's practically getting engaged. Anyway, the other odd thing about the clubs, especially the hip hop clubs, is that the music they rush to the dance floor to grind to is at such a slow tempo that the ballads I listened to when I was their age would be considered to be midtempo dance songs. I'm as attracted to these young hot beautiful women as I have ever been, but I feel old when they tell me how much they loved dancing to Mariah Carey's "Fantasy" back in sixth grade. The other thing that gets me is how much they love a sampled beat or melody to some song and they are clueless as to who did the original song. The other thing that sets me apart from my friends is that I am still very much into music. My best friend loves music as much as I do and still goes to clubs on occasion, but she has a child and two stepchildren to raise, so her time is pretty much taken up with her work and parenting duties. As for other friends and acquaintances my age, they spend more time listening to news and talk radio, partly because they are older and have other issues to worry about, but also because they can't stand listening to 50 Cent and Britney Spears and some of the lesser talented "stars" out there. If they do listen to music, its usually something they ripped to their iPod.  | |

Personally, the best stuff I've found in the last few years has been from independent/underground (i.e. not on the radio) artists.
My advice to you: turn your radio off. You're on a great machine. The computer is an excellent way to discover new music. Do some Google searches. Browse some music forums. Keep your eyes and ears open, you're bound to run across some great stuff. Also, don't be afraid to file share (record companies hate it), but I've been turned on to so many new and diverse artists through Peer-2-Peer Downloading. | |

Jesse McCartney & Rob Thomas- Justin Timberlake Ciara- Janet Jackson Tyra(that girl who sings "Country Boy" or something like that)Omarion, and Justin Timberlake- Usher JoJo- Christina Aguilera ...you guys see what i mean? It seems like music's in some kind of weird ass Groundhog Day effect. Where's the new "Prince" at? I mean, M.J. passed the torch to Usher, where's the new Prince at? When is somebody gonna kick his ass? That's what i'm waiting for. The last great c.d. i bought was Kaleidiscope, by Kelis, and that was 6 years ago. I don't even wait for c.d.'s to come out anymore. A lot of them don't even know the difference between disco and funk and don't even realize that disco kicks the shit out of their music. That's all they know. I can remember when they didn't know that Lionel Richie used to be in The Commodores and they didn't know who the Commodores were. NOW, they don't even know who Lionel Richie is, let alone The Commodores. The radio has played this bullshit, exclusively for 15 years now and that's all they know. The other thing that sets me apart from my friends is that I am still very much into music. My best friend loves music as much as I do and still goes to clubs on occasion, but she has a child and two stepchildren to raise, so her time is pretty much taken up with her work and parenting duties.
Same here. Most of my friends from back in the day, aren't much into music any more. A have only one friend from back in the day, that is as much into music as I am but he hardly ever parties any more because he has a child now. Andy is a four letter word. | |
