I think he tends to feel that he must be inhumanly perfect and that's probably why he lip-synchs, it's probably lots of self hate and extensive perfectionism

I think you´re right on this one. Although I would agree with the hate part. It´s interesting how some ppl believe that he hates himself, others he loves himself too much. I guess MJ´s too much for us to figure out.

listen to that catastrophe on 2000 Watts...

what catstrophe? I think it´s great. His voice sounds sexy deep as Prince´s does.
"When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

I think Michael is Far superior vocalist to Prince. i however think that George Michael is the only other male singer that could compete with either of those two. but seriously Michael vs. prince???/ now if it was MJ Vs. Lenny Kravitz hmmm then we'd be talking.....

lol lol

Testing, testing 123...Is this thing on?????
XAVIER23, I'll put Howard Hewitt, formerly on Shalamr, on George Michael.
Now that'll be a vocal battle to hear and enjoy.

IF THIS WERE TRUE HE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN LIP-SYNCHING FOR 10 YEARS....

He used to be a fantastic singer though, but he is just dead musically, vocally and physically more broadly

I disagree, D. "Butterflies" is proof MJ can sing when he actually wants to.

They are both vocal and musical geniuses. I totally respect Mike's talent. I just prefer Prince ,all things considered.I was really into Mike's stuff as a kid until I got pimp slapped by Prince's music. It was over, then.I have most of Mike's output, but I'm not obssessive about him like I am Prince and I really hardly ever listen to Mike.I don't find his music that daring or soaring.

I right with you on this one. Agreed 100%.

sigh..... i have seen footage of the 'dangerous' tour, and this guy is lyp-synching most of the time, i have seen him dangle babies out of balkonies, i have seen him turn from a nice looking black guy in some scary alien, i have seen him giving the bottle to his youngest child, while he was shaking like a madman on drugs, i have seen different comments of him on TV that sleeping with little children is allright, I have seen him on TV spending millions on useless stuff, and ALL the time i was thinking this: this guy definitely needs help....

GangstaFam

I never noticed how many MJ avatars there are on here.

I personally prefer Prince's vocals by quite a bit. I can't give an honest assessment of who's better and I doubt many that aren't vocal coaches or opera singers could either. It's all a matter of taste. Both are wonderful singers.

One thing I've noticed is that Michael really can't translate it well live. He's always gasping and out of breath. I realize it's because he's moving around like a wild man, but damn. Settle down and get the notes out. Prince makes singing live sound effortless.

hellomoto.....oops, i did forget one sentence: and as Michael did get weirder and weirder, his voice and quality detoriated. wink

wink To be honest, when i was following Prince from the sidelines in his Slave-period, i was thinking he was in some downyard spiral like Michael seems to be in since the succes of Thriller, i mean: he did look awful skinny, unhealthy, the quality of his music also went down and the persona / enigma did seem to get more important then the music....

The strange thing is, despite the awfull lyrics on The Rainbow Children and the bland mediocricy of musicology I (intuitively?) feel that Prince is getting his things in order again, while i feel that Michael is on a dead road he cant escape (i really think he will be found 'guilty', and Michael wont survive life in prison.....sorry to say, but i have a strong sense it will end up this way).

The reason why i expressed my 'disgust' over this ongoing post has two reasons:
- While Prince and Michael have in common that they both are 'icons' and 'eccentric', i dont see the need to always compare those two artists. Its a fact, they both became a superstar in the eighties, but while Michael is (was?) in the first place a splendid singer and dancer, Prince is (was?) in the first place an innovative, visionary musician. In that sense i think its more appropriate to compare Prince to musicians before him like Sly Stone, George Clinton and the Beatles, and artists that became after him, like Bjork and Beck.
- The fact is that there is a person on trial for possible childabuse. In this case its Michael Jackson, a worldfamous popstar. But what if this person would be an ordinary white bloke with a beerbelly and glasses that are too large to label them as 'retro' even?.... My explanation: out of curiousity, i have read a lot of (leaked) jurisdiction about this case on this net, and i can only conclude from it that Michael has did very, very stupid things in the past, things that can be very traumatic to young children (assuming 13 year old boys speak the truth, and my senses tell they do)... I am not necesarilly picking on Michael as a PERSON because of this, because i think certain things (a bad youth, succes coming to soon, mental lability) did probably put a weight on his shoulders, but, on the other hand, most of you seem to ignore the fact that Michael is in a very bad position, a position thats tragic for all involved (including Michael himselve), and also a position that makes me look at big reserves at Michaels (musical) efforts.... I mean, if Prince was in this kind of situation, i would consider if i should continue listening to his music.....
