Michael is a trained and gifted vocalist as well as a entertainer. A natural-born frontman. The black community always gave Michael credit for his vocal abilites, but I guess the black community wasn't enough. But that's another subject.

Prince is a musician. He's also a frontman, too. Prince is along the lines of Miles, Bird, Bach and Beethovan.
Prince can write lyrics, create musical arrangements and his a natural groove man. However, Prince's musicianship will NOT allow himself to keep making commercial music as he's always looking for a new sound, style and musicial expression. As listed above, Prince is a musician first.

At one time, they [Mike and Prince] were the most powerful duo in music. Now, imagine if they had combined their musical abilites; joined by Babyface, Kenny & Dallas, Jim & Terry and Puffy. Enough dreaming.

I think Michael is Far superior vocalist to Prince. i however think that George Michael is the only other male singer that could compete with either of those two. but seriously Michael vs. prince???/ now if it was MJ Vs. Lenny Kravitz hmmm then we'd be talking.....

Some of P's songs wouldn't sound good if sung by MJ, and vice versa, quite frankly.

I think that Michael, by nature, is a good singer, his trademark little sreams and yells sounding fresh unto The Thriller album, but after that those signatures became sounding more and more forced, and more a manierism, then a real expression of soul...

And when you look to the material of the 'dangerous' tour, you hear a voice which is not in full form, and much of the vocal lines are on tape even to disguise that. After that it even became worse: i remember Michael Jackson doing some guest appaerance with the Backstreet Boys or 'N Sync (one of those boybands at least) on an award-show, not only he was playbacking the song in a very bad way, his dancemoves were just a shadow of what he was capable off in the eighties and he seemed to be on drugs...or something. Very sad to watch.

I must admit i have never seen footage from Michael as a livesinger in the seventies and early eighties, but i have to say Prince is a better livesinger then Michael, and only seems to improve while singing vocally live the last
2 - 3 years.

(By the way.....dont slab me for it, but its my honest opinion, there are singers who sing way better live then Prince, but maybe thats something for another subject)

They are both vocal and musical geniuses. I totally respect Mike's talent. I just prefer Prince ,all things considered.I was really into Mike's stuff as a kid until I got pimp slapped by Prince's music. It was over, then.I have most of Mike's output, but I'm not obssessive about him like I am Prince and I really hardly ever listen to Mike.I don't find his music that daring or soaring.

Picture Mike trying to do Pussy Control, Sexy MF, or My name is Prince. He'd be hard pressed to get that much bass and machismo in his voice. And the song Damn U??? What's MJ gonna do when he has to sing. "....all I'm trying to say is that my psychadelic shouts when U damn me...." ???? Too low for MJ.

The original 'You Can't Win' from The Wiz (not the 12" version). check out the last line, it'll shock you how deep it is. He has a deep register, examples of it are pretty rare though.

2000 watts on Invincible is another, though i wouldn't recommend that song to my worst enemy. Cloudy likes it though. Why? i've no idea! lol

I just discovered the extended mix of "You Can't Win" and IMO, it totally kills the soundtrack version (although I always loved the way he sings "of the game" at the end.)Dude was trying to channel Stevie on the 12" single.

Co-sign. I loved Mike's music as a kid. Even as a young teen. But if you listen to his stuff, it is very safe, clean, smooth music. When I first heard Prince, Michael's stuff looked like Pat Boone compared to Prince's Little Richard.

Mainstream, Perry Como like genius--Michael Jackson.
Edgy, dangerous music, like Elvis at his youth--Prince.

Both types are good. But Prince's music is so much more interesting and varied in scope.

i think michaels voice is as good as it ever was. i was just listening to 'what more can i give' with all those celebrities on it. and it made me realize just how good and unique his voice really is. he just stood out on that song, and i remeber watching the martin bashir documentry (the thing that made me a michael jackson fan) so at the time i was not a fan, and in it he was singing 'smile' and i remember thinking, man, hes got a beautiful voice. i watched the show on jetzi's again a couple of days ago and i still got that same thought.

He used to be a fantastic singer though, but he is just dead musically, vocally and physically more broadly

I'm sure this is all just wishful thinking but I'd love to see him come back and do some live shows that are on par with his peak vocal-live-performance abilities like from 88-88 Bad Tour Footage.

I think he tends to feel that he must be inhumanly perfect and that's probably why he lip-synchs, it's probably lots of self hate and extensive perfectionism

MJ could do the same song...
with a better vocal quality...

Prince's vocals is not up to... standard
MJ's vocals are...

but as a whole range

Prince has better vocals...
Why?
because Prince can go LOW and extremely HIGH
MJ can't go low...
listen to that catastrophe on 2000 Watts...

BULLSHIT. Michael couldn't be a pimple on Prince's dick.
