Michael Jackson is a far superior vocalist to Prince.

No, I'm not just saying it for a reaction.... it's true and you know it!

Although Prince has a more impressive deeper vocal IMO, he simply couldn't sing a lot of the songs that Michael belts out without going into his falsetto.

I was listening to "We've Had Enough" and in the first bridge MJ uses his falsetto and then on the second he belts it out in his regular voice and I just thought "Prince simply COULDN'T sing this."

Although I agree that a technically good singer doesn't always make for a better vocalist... I still think MJ is the stronger of the two.

What d'ya reckon?

I totally agree.

I think that Michael is actually one of the greatest living vocalists and doesn't get enough credit for his vocal chops.

I think Prince is an excellent vocalist, but I tend to see him as more of an all-around musician and Michael as more specific-singing + dancing= he obliterates most musicians easily.

I reckon you're absolutely wrong!! Of course, this is just my opinion.

I do like MJ, but I don't think MJ has anything on Prince. Prince is a far better musician, writer, singer and performer. Oh and I forgot, Prince is a better actor too wink

Michael is a better vocalist, but that's not a knock on Prince. Very few people can compete with mike's youth voice. As adults they were close. I prefer Mike, but P could do things with his voice that others couldn't. Prince is probably better now, but Mike's peak is close to unmatchable.

“the high notes” comment on life of the party shows us that P regards mike’s voice as close to his own or in competition with.

MJ could do the same song...
with a better vocal quality...

Prince's vocals is not up to... standard
MJ's vocals are...

but as a whole range

Prince has better vocals...
Why?
because Prince can go LOW and extremely HIGH
MJ can't go low...
listen to that catastrophe on 2000 Watts...

I disagree, the things prince can do with his voice are just breath taking, he can rip out your heart with just his voice, listen 2 "i love you in me", "Pink cashmere" michael could never sing like that.

Ok i used 2 b a huge michael fan, untill i found prince, and ever since i have noticed that Prince has a far more impressive vocals than michael jackson. Second of all can michael jackson do those same vocals on stage like prince, I fink not!

Michael's tone is much clearer and his consonants are more precise.

One thing that is also of note is that many people that I have spoken to think of Michael as a vocalist, known for his voice, whereas they think of Prince as a creative artist, guitarist, overall musician etc..

I'd agree to a point.

See, when Michael actually SINGS, he's as good as any singer around. But there came a point when the "dah"'s and "shomeon"'s were just plain annoying. Proof positive: "Remember The Time" and "Butterflies" are great songs, 2 of his best after Bad. He's got a GREAT voice.

Now, "far superior"? I doubt that. But "better," I could go with.

i prefer prince's vocals, personally. he's got far more range than mj and its stronger. i love mj and janet but they definitely have soft voices and little range. its ok for what they do but it does make it difficult to step into other genres. that's why prince can do anything from funk to rock to folk...its all in the range.

you're right, it doesn't. it takes range to be able to do all of the above well.

I think Prince is a better vocalist.

Prince can sing a lot more different styles.

I mean, do you really think MJ could sing Do Me, Baby, God, or Solo?

Absolutely,(example: any live TV appearances with the Jackson 5) and I've never heard anyone with tighter vocals and rhythmic complexity than the harmonies and ad libs Michael does in the last 2 minutes of "Can't Let Her Get Away"
