You might want to pick up the Westway to the World DVD which chronicles The Clash story in a series of interviews with the band and lots of live footage through the years. It also contains the only surviving footage of the The Clash's 1982 seventeen night stand at NYC's Bond Theater. It is a great DVD. nod

Yes. There is a three disc box set called On Broadway. I don't own it, but I have checked out friend's copies. As I recall, it's a pretty good overview of their career, with all of the best songs off of thier offical releases. It also has two decent booklets with good liner notes. It does not contain much in the way of unreleased material or other goodies.

Pagey

Get the 1st album, The Clash (UK version). This is my favorite Clash album. I love LC too, but for a full fledge punk album the 1st album is tops.

Next is Combat Rock...really good, if not a bit too commercial (Rock the Casbah is on it).

Sandanista! is good but its really long with a lot of filler (it was originally a triple album). However there are some kick ass tunes that are just as good as anything on LC.

As many of you here know, The Clash is one of my favorite bands of all time. I say, if you're angry, political, and want to shake things up, get the first album. Then work your way through the rest of their catalog. nod

And don't hate on "Sandinista!" either. I thought it was brilliant.

never saw your thread until today !!!

the clash had 3 front men strummer, jones and simo !!! , n' they were backed by the greatest drummer in the world at that time !!! yea topper was that gooood !

joe strummer had the anger, mick jones the beats ,.. boy did mick have the beats !!! , and paul simonon was ,.... mr cool !

quotes about the clash by many !!

"the only band that ever mattered" by many,....

"there was a band as good as us on the 2nd album tour ,... the clash" johnny ramone.

seriously if you have started with the greatest album of all time LC then its time to start at the beginning !!!

the clash, debut album been stated many times perfect 1st album raw energy !

give em enough rope, 2nd album sandy pearlman brought in as producer he said about topper (drummer) "this guy is a human drum machine" listen to tommy gunn drumming excellence !!! better produced ie; clearer procuction i love it but a lot of clash fans prefer the 1st albums production raw n ready type !!

london calling !!! voted the album of the 80's in rolling stone , famous joe strummer quote !!! " but it was released in 79" "the sleeve was voted greatest album cover of all time aswell !!!, listen to jimmy jazz i swear joe is drunk whilst laying down the vocals !

sandinista theres usually a split between fans ie; love it or hate it !! lol
i love it ,... theres everything on here , gospel, funk, punk, soul the clash had soul in spades !!! this was originally released as a triple lp record the band stated that the recored company had to price it as a single album ! its a bit like LC but even more adventurous !!! listen to , the track ,.. sound of the sinners ahhhh brilliant.

the last studio album , .... combat rock , awsome a band ready to take over the world then bang joe punches mick backstage n add that to the fact simo n joe n mick dont talk n u get the end !!! shame they were massive in europe and the states at this point !! , the whole album is excellent a bit moodier in production , a great album to listen to with headphones !

get the singles album too , as many singles werent on albums ,.. white man in hammersmith for example ,.. is one o there very best !!

the movie rude boy has the most amazing live footage of this era ,... unbelievable energy and rappore with there fans ,.. the clash loved there fans !

westway to the world is a must this dvd educates the new fan without a doubt ! i grew up listening to the clash , my fave member was mick i always thought he was the brains behind the band ! everyone else loved joe !!! so it was great to see joe in westway dvd admit mick was the man and the band were wrong to kick him out !!! they kicked him out cos he behaved like "elizabeth taylor in a foul mood" according to joe !lol.

theres sooooo.... much more but this lot should keep you going !!

then onto,...

black market clash , the broadway box n' on n on n on.....

and another thing !! i saw em live with and without mick they are probably the best live band i ever saw and i have been going to gigs for 27 years !! theres a live album too (from here to eternity),its very good but doesnt really give em justice.

my favourite clash songs are ,....

stay free , 2nd album

train in vain , third album

white man in hammersmith palais , singles album

Yeah, I'll bet you actually saw The Clash live. I only saw Joe Strummer back in 2001.
