I have heard of her for over a decade now but never bought any of her stuff....I respect her for being in TOTAL control of her career by starting off(and remaining) an independant artist...Anyone have a bio on her? What is her best albums? THANKS!

I don't know much about her, but the one Ani album I own, Living In Clip, is pure joy and she is a marvelous lyricist. I truly admire her. "She made me glad to be a man"

My faves are Revelling/Reckoning and Dilate but I'm missing quite a few. I haven't heard the new album yet. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

I remember meeting Ani DiFranco last year. I told her that Little Plastic Castle was my favorite album and that she's a brilliant songwriter. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

I'm really only familiar with her Not a Pretty Girl/Dilate period. Living in Clip is nice too. I have To the Teeth and the new one but don't know them very well yet. I'd like to flesh out my collection, but get a bit overwhelmed by her at times.

Get the new album especially if you've liked Revelling/Reckoning. I got into her with the R/R album and it blew me away so I have everything since. Evolve is great, Educated guess is okay, but the new one is really good. To The Teeth, Living in Clip, and the other live album Stray Cats/Girls Singing Night (I think that's the name) are also must haves. For whatever reason I never got into the albums pre- "To the Teeth". I have some of those albums (Out of Range, Up,Up,Up and Little Plastic Castles to name a few) but haven't gotten into them yet. I play To the Teeth and everything after that more than I do Prince and even more than Stevie. Her lyrics alone are enough to draw you in but when you add that to her songwriting, musicianship, politics, and the way she uses her voice-- much like Prince I might add-- and you have one of the greatest artists of our time.

I only heard about this talented woman last year through a pal on the Org (Taureau ). I'd like to hear more. She has great delivery. "..My work is personal, I'm a working person, I put in work, I work with purpose.."

Actually, it's called "So Much Shouting, So Much Laughter". Ani is a goddess in my world, I love her music. If i were to suggest albums to start with, I'd say "Living In Clip"(one of the best live albums ever), Not A Pretty Girl, and especially , DILATE! Her newest, Knuckle Down is excellent too. id really be interested in hearing from more seasoned fans of her if this album is that much of a departure... I think there's been a difference in her music since her father died last year.Maybe her music is just getting a little lighter with age, she was only 15 when she started playing her music in clubs. I saw her last year at a free two day concert that she gave to the city of Buffalo with the GooGoo Dolls .It was a really great concert both days. There's a lot of good music coming out of Buffalo these days. "Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind"-Dr Seuss

I definitely prefer the pre "To the Teeth" stuff. It was just more immediate to me, both in terms of lyrics and music. The new stuff is fine, just a little boring in my book, a little too musicianly, if that makes any sense.
I'm really loving the Martha Wainwright CD. Any fans of old Ani should check it out. "Bloody Mother Fucking Asshole" is song of the year so far. [Edited 5/1/05 12:23pm]

I don't know...I've seen her out at different places but always with a group of friends, never cozy with one person. "Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind"-Dr Seuss
