For voice alone it would be Johnny now. Ralph as a child.
Ralph has the best voice for the type of music they do-- pop music. Ricky's voice is serviceable. Bobby never could sing but he was the personality and the entertainer of the bunch. The other two should consider themselves very fortunate.

I HAVE TO SAY RALPH... HE WAS THE MAIN SINGER

Johnny Gill easily...
How can you say that Ralph Transvestite can sing? He's got such a thin weak puny voice...

Johnny...2nd would be Ricky.

Everyone knows that Ralph Tresvant has the finest voice. Johnny Gill or Ricky Bell would be next in line.

Ricky is very underated. He sounded shit as a kid but he grew up to have a great lil' voice. Johnny overcooks everything. Not as bad as aaron hall mind. He sounded best when growling on solo tracks like "rub you the right way". ralph has a silky smooth tennybopper voice. it has always sounded good. I like his rapping voice too. Ronnie? Ha Michael? Raps better then ronnie (but then who doesn't) I like ralph best. Like on "still in love with you" or "is it really love". I can hear passion in his voice. effort or whatever. Just like the tone. Funny that NE is the only boyband that had members where everyone could remember their names. Plus they all had different qualities (ronnies being the choreographer). Plus they were no doubt a supergroup. I know bobby is off key or whatever, but I really like his voice. Gives ballads like "pretty little girl" an edge.

But I will say that before Johnny joined, Ralph had the best voice. He had that young MJ style perfected, especially on their first 2 albums. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

I'll happy that Ralph is still the leader of New Edition by all means. But let face reality: Johnny sing like a freaking grown ass man. He is like the Teddy Pendergrass of the new jack swing era. Ralph was already famous for being a Michael Jackson heir light years before Tevin Campbell, Usher, or Justin Timberlake. But compare to Johnny, Ralph sings like a woman!!!

[Edited 5/6/05 17:05pm] Ricky's voice was horrible as a kid though. I preferred bobbies voice on "candy girl" over ralphs for example. Ha Bobby is so funny in those early videos. He looks mean in them videos too. Like "mr telephone man". He acts REALLY pissed off with the telephone men. An awesome video.

Lord knows, I went to my share of them. I wish i did. I got a few tv apperances though. Like one where he is doing "on our own" at some award show and another unused song he did at the MTV awards one year, wearing all pink (only bobby could pull that off). He is funny on stage. He is crazy. He pulls faces and pisses about. On the "on our own" performance, he is sweating like crazy and is really off key, but its great though. Him and Hammer were the best performers back then. They could cream the ridget janet jackson. Paula abdul lacked charisma on stage also, like that "vibeology" live mtv awards she did. That was pretty naff. Hammer would do shit like go out into the audience on tv award shows. U dont get that now.

Hammer vanishes off the stage and surprises the stuffy audience at the back of the auditorium. They look round at hammer as he comes singing and dancing down the isle. Crazy shit, yet when i was a kid, it seemed the norm. Hammer was not the norm. He gives the mic to a few audience members to sing "you cant touch this". Great stuff. Then the song is over and u see vanilla ice NOT clapping in the audience. He is wearing that stupid american flag jacket.

Bobby sounds like doo-doo on the song "Jealous Girl". On the second lp he and Ricky grew a lot vocally. They both sound better than Ralph on the song "Mr. Telephone Man". I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!
