u should start a topic. Eamon I totally agree with. Now he is gone forever hopefully. Beyonce? Shes alright I guess. Mariah is more then guilty for having to show off she can sing. But if she keeps it to a minimum, she's cool.

I remember when "Make You Sweat" was popular. My cousin and I joked about it.
You say no, I say yes, girl I bet I can make you sweat. She said "sounds like rape to me."

Keith Sweat's first 2 albums are THE classics. They bring back good memories of the teen dances that I intended back then.

But I hated There you go (telling me no again). THAT was the only Keith Sweat song that didn't make any sense whatsoever. Too much whining!

I was at the clubs when Keith"the Beggar"Sweat was tha man !
Brings back memories ...

His voice is indeed a bit too whiny, but that´s OK for he´s got his own style.

Do you know that column in VIBE magazine called " Bobbito plays the tracks " ???

Bobbito Garcia makes celebrities listen to certain songs and they talk about their feelings, memories, whether they like the song or not.
Anyway, one day Bobbito was supposed to do this interview thing with Keith, and he didn´t even know who Keith was !!!! lol

I mean Bobbito is from NYC, he´s a well known D'J, and he doesn´t know Keith Sweat, who also happens to be from NYC...
I found it strange.

ugh! I admit, I

NEVER

acquired a taste for the "fine WHINE" of Keith Sweat!

EVERY SONG of his they played on the radio.. he WHINED like a baby!
I don't know the name of the song, but it's the 1 whose lyrics begin with "you may be young but you're ready".. in that song he WHINES for a full 4 bars before he even starts singing! he WHINES in "merry-go-round"..

I don't know whose idea it was for him to WHINE in his songs, but he really did NOT need to do that- Keith is actually a good singer.
but
WHINING became his "trademark"

the only song I can think of where he DOESN'T whine is "I want her" - in that song, he's just trying to sound like prince.

ugh.

if he ever stops WHINING & simply sings, that would be something.
I'll see you tonight..
in ALL MY DREAMS..

the ultimate deep love song is "how deep is your love"...oh my god that song gives me chills down my spine.

I also love "there you go (tellin' me no again" yeah he whined through the whole song, but I can't resist.

"I want her" has to be the ultimate song of '88 biggrin
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

man, keith was the SHIT back in the day mushy

that first album was popular when i was out discovering myself... sure, in ways that my momma didnt really like giggle but there was definately something that happened to me when that man's songs came on. the beginning of HOW DEEP IS YOUR LOVE will always bring back some of the most lovely memories i had with my sons father... 9 years with him..... not all bad, definately not all good... but still a huge part of my young life.

then, at my wedding, the very last song played, as most folks had left, and it was just he and i on the dance floor.... folks were cleaning up.... the lights were low.... i will never forget that moment

yeah, keith was cool.. back in the day

How can anyone NOT like "Make It Last Forever?" That song is golden. Keith does whine, but it works for the type of songs he does. The last good material I heard from him was on his album in 97. "Nobody" was the jam.

Nobody was the song that i was talking about was the last one played at our reception.... one that only he and i danced to, kind of a nice lead in to the night we had horny

and all that 'whining' keith does... it only seemed to lead to more whining by me in the end redface

I want to tease you, I want to please you
I want to show you, baby, that I need you

I want your body 'till the very last drop
I want you to holler, when you want me to stop

And who can love you like me (nobody)
Who can sex you like me (nobody)
Who can treat you like me now, baby (nobody)
Nobody, baby (nobody)
And who can do it like me (nobody)
And who can give you what you need (nobody)
Who can do you all night long (nobody)
Nobody, baby (nobody)

[Athena]
I want the night, for me and you
So come here baby, and let me do it to you
Don't be afraid, 'cause I won't bite
I promise to give it to you
Just the way you like

And who can love you like me (nobody)
Who can sex you like me (nobody)
Who can lay your body down (nobody)
Nobody, baby (nobody)
And who can treat you like me (nobody)
Who can give you what you need (nobody)
And who can do you all night long (nobody)
Nobody, baby (nobody)
And the band keeps playing on

[Both]
On, on, on, and on, on...
Nobody, baby
On, on, on, and on, on...
Nobody baby
Come on
On, no, on, and on, on...
Nobody baby

I want you, right now for my lover, oh yes I do
Place no one above you, oh yes I do
If you need love, I'll be right, baby
I'll be right there, baby, oh yes I will
Oh yes I will baby
Oh yes I will baby

And who will love you like me (nobody)
Who can sex your body like me baby (nobody)
Who can do it like me, baby (nobody)
No, no, no (nobody)
Who can lay you down just like me (nobody)
Who can kiss you all over your body, baby (nobody)
I'm gonna caress your body

(ad lib till fade)

Yeah dont I know it. Born in 85, I did get into music very early. By 5 I listened to "do the bartman" etc.....but by the time I was 8 or 9, newjack was dead.

To witness new, YOUNG rnb singers arounf 1987-1988 etc must of been awesome.

OH S**T!!!

I loved New Jack and "I Want Her" in particular.

But over time I realized that Keith, Al B. Sure, and most of the other New Jackers were a triumph of studio production over talent.

Thanks, Teddy Riley.

Keith Sweat couldn't sing if they put his cat in a sack and beat it with a bat.

Oh wait. That's his latest single...

Yes it was , but I think the early and mideighties were a bit more interesting. I really loved those Jhericurl years and the music of the SOS Band, Prince, ALexander O´Neal, ZAPP,Cameo and Midnight Star or the Whispers and especially eighties rap.
But the time between Keith Sweat´s Make It Last Forever and Prince´s Diamonds And Pearls was also great.

I have yet to become interested in that "era". I find it too midtempo. But maybe I have listened to the wrong stuff.

I admit about the studio trickery thing. We all know al b sure! was al studio magic. But cats like christopher williams, aaron hall etc could sing.

Funny how it was really just one producer (teddy riley) that really started the corssover and newjack in general.

"just got paid- johnny kemp
"i want her"- Keith swaet
"my perogative"- Bobby brown
"groove me" "piece of my love"-guy.....all teddy produced or arranged somewhere.

Jam and lewis were always more pop. La reid and babyface were new jack swing lite! All great though. They were the trinity of rnb producers back then.
