Curtis Mayfield - Classics

Maybe it's just my age but I found myself buying The Curtum years 70-77' £3.99

I'm not one for buyinmg many other artists but for years I've always fancied buying one of his albums and I was more than happy with my purchase.

The album sounds so real, the music is live and feels as if it is a concert in your car! Move on Up, A darker shade of Blue, Keep on Keepin on! I never realised the samples that Curtis's music has given rise to. Superfly...the list goes on.

I'm sure I heard samplease used by Fatboy Slim, Christina Aguilara and the young disciples to name but a few.

I'm thinking of buying more classic albums. Marvin Gaye "Let's get it on!"

Any other suggestions?

Sadly, much of Curtis' recorded output remains out of print...thank god for vinyl. If you can find it, "Future Shock" by Curtis is a masterpiece. I recommend:

Be Altitude-The Staple Singers
Us-Maceo Parker
Electric Mudd-Muddy Waters
Let's take it to the Stage-Funkadelic
Fresh-Sly and the Family Stone
Games, Dames, and Guitar Thangs-Eddie Hazel
Music Keeps me Together-Taj Mahal
Hijera-joni Mitchell

Enjoy

Stevie Wonder - Talking Book, Innervisions.
Sly - Fresh, Riot, Small Talk, Ain't But The One Way
Miles - On The Corner, Dark Magus,
Marvin Gaye - Here, My Dear, I Want You
Donny Hatahaway - anything.
Curtis Mayfield - Curtis Live, Curtis.
...that's just a few.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned Music of My Mind, that's another great one to add to the list. Also Shuggie Otis' Inspiration Information
