I really enjoy hip hop, but lately the music has just not grabbed me like it did in my adolescence. I miss songs like "Self-Destruction," "Monie In The Middle," Nikki D's "Sunny Daze," De La's "Buddy (12")" and Chubb Rock's "Tream 'Em Right." I really miss the fun element of hip hop. I woke up this morning rapping the words to Doug E. Fresh & The Get Fresh Crew's "Keep Risin' To The Top" and I thought to myself, "Man, they don't make party/fun cuts like that anymore." I rarely bump hip hop or rap nowadays because it's too consumed in drama and materialism. I still hold a place in my bosom for what it once was, but I'm leary of what it'll become.

The few good hip hop acts that I like out there just happen to be indie and underground such as Tori Fixx (www.torifixx.com), Soce, The Elemental Wizard (www.socetew.com), Scream Club (www.screamclub.com), Protegée (www.protegee2k.com), Miss Money, etc. I was bumpin' Tori Fixx's Black.Out and Soce's I'm In My Own World incessantly last year. They were the few incandescent spots in the genre for me.

Most new hip-hop is shit.
There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently

I understand when you say that you like to hear Hip-Hop at a faster tempo.

We need Miami Bass Music to make a comeback and kill Crunk!!!

I hear ya! I used to love Miami bass music. I don't know what the hell crunk is but the name doesn't sound too appealing to me. lol

Flashback:

Remember when Nelson Mandela was released from prison in 1990? He toured the States and gave speeches at various venues throughout the country. Well, I caught a glimpse of the man upclose when he came to the L.A. Memorial Coliseum. The West Coast All-Stars performed "We're All In The Same Gang" on stage along with a surprise appearance by Public Enemy, before their headlining set. I was too young to be admitted to the Public Enemy concert that followed after Mandela's speech. If I remember correctly, you had to be at least 13 years old to enter and I was still TOO young in 1990. Great memory, though. I still have the Nelson Mandela "Free at Last" T-shirt that my uncle bought in the parking lot of the Coliseum.
