I saw her on both of those tours, but when I saw her for Pink, she didn't have an accompaniast (just the aforementioned click-track for "God" and "Cornflake Girl". Otherwise, it was all her on the piano). Did you see an UTP show where she was joined by someone else? i actually didn't go to the under the pink tour; it's the only tour i missed. i didn't realize just how popular she had become by then and, since the show i saw in '92 was nowhere near sold out, i figured i could get tickets whenever. wrong! i have some bootlegs (audio) and i thought there was accompaniment because i heard instruments other than the piano. if it was a tape, that explains it. friends of mine saw the tour in europe and i could have sworn they said she had a bass player come out and a percussionist from time to time but maybe i'm just mixed up.

[Edited 4/27/05 23:40pm] Oh man, that year Prince and Tori played the same place (Irving Plaza) in NYC also! I remember arriving at the venue at around 5am to stand online, but there was already a million people there. When management handed out the wristbands I was just beyond the cutoff point, but fortunately a friend of a friend was just standing online to keep their friend company and didn't plan on actually going to the show so I got their wristband and got a ticket. It was general admission, standing room only. It was the closest to the stage that I ever was for a Tori show. The Prince show was on Good Friday after the Essence Awards so it didn't start until really late (1:00 am?), but those tickets were available through Ticketmaster so I didn't have to stand online for that show.

Both of those tours were at Jones Beach in Long Island (an outdoor ampitheater). It wasn't too bad. The Choirgirl tour was the worst. She played at Madison Square Garden that time (Janet and Madonna usually play there). Fortunately I had floor seats near the front that time. I will never, ever understand Tori opening for Alanis. And for the 'Sneak Preview Tour' for the Choirgirl album, she played a very small, standing room only club in Detroit. What I wouldn't give now to hear those songs in that setting! Argh! The whole thing with Alanis was actually at Ms Morrisette's request. She's a huge Tori fan, and wanted her presence on the tour. Tori only toured with her for a few weeks, and then went out on her own. Fortunately, I saw Tori without Alanis at the Backyard in Austin, TX!!! The Tori/Alanis show was one of the best shows I've ever been to. I love them both, and I was just trebling from excitement throughout the entire show. Alanis made me cry with "That I Would Be Good". Once Tori finished her set (Which was enough to be satisfied), my friend and I were like "Holy shit! That was amazing and now we get to see Alanis!!!" I looked down at my hands and they were shaking so much. Alanis did an amazing version of Your House that had some really trippy music... I wish I could hear that again.

I wouldn't mind Tori touring with a band or accompaniment so she could play all the songs she's not playing now on her solo tour. Or even if she comes back at all that would be nice.

I like Alanis, but nowhere near to the level I do Tori. I wouldn't want to see them together, simply because they are really apples & oranges. I think it would mar my enjoyment of Alanis's set, simply becuase I know I'd still be thinking of how blown away I was by Tori. Well, I don't like Alanis at all (like anyone asked me, lol). I don't even want to associate with her crazy fans. Everyone knows Tori's fans aren't crazy like that, right?
Right? | |

And all she had was guitar player for Pele. in philly, tori had a bassist or guitarist (don't remember which) and a woman on percussion. the woman had a huge drum that she played during "caught a lite sneeze" - it was really cool to watch this woman beat on this drum! there were other moments of accompaniment also but that drummer stands out the most in my mind.

For all you Tori geeks, here's a stat list from the 'Original Sinsuality' tour.
Total number of shows attended: 15 Total number of songs performed: 283 Total number of songs, each individual song counted only once: 102 Total number of songs played only one time: 52 Average number of songs per show: 18.87 Ratio of individual songs to average number of songs per show: 102 / 18.87 Note: Multiple shows with no variation in the setlist would yield a ratio approaching 1 (e.g. 23 / 23). Looking over that list I was struck by something that I already knew. But damn! How many other artists do you know that perform over 100 songs on one tour? Let alone, such a short run with only 15 dates. This woman blows me away.

from the Dent...
The Tori Online Team sent out their latest email on Thursday evening, April 28, 2005 and they clearly state in it that the next single from The Beekeeper will be "Sweet The Sting". This of course means that this is the next song that will be promoted to radio. It is not expected that there will be any kind of commercial single...

Tori's U.S. tour later this summer will in fact be solo
Posted Fri, Apr 29, 2005 - 1:33am ET | Tour I earlier reported about a comment from Matt Camberlain at his web site telling people that he would not be touring with Tori this year. Tori has now been telling people at various meet and greets that her tour when she returns to the U.S. will in fact be solo. Therefore there are NO plans for Tori to tour with a band this year. We have no specific dates for her next round of U.S concert dates, but we do expect it to begin in August 2005 and continue at least through September... /

Or she really just refuses to play with any other musicians at this point if she can't have HER band.
