Nik Kershaw Yet another brit I have just discovered. I love the video and song "the riddle". I think I saw the rather odd "wouldn't it be good" song too. Is that Nik Kershaw? Anyway "the riddle" is a really nice pop song.

Yup, That was Nik, too! I'm still a big Nik Kershaw fan. When I first saw him in the early 80's I assumed was just another Teen-Pop idol...and a lot of his first album was lite-pop. later I read that his heroes were actually Weather Report, Peter Gabriel, The Pat Metheny Group, and Joni Mitchell -- I said, "Man, I gotta check this guy out more closely!". His second album, The Riddle, was more like Paul Young-meets-Level 42-meets-Tears For Fears(one tune, "Easy" even had Level 42's Mark King on Bass) and when he eventually recorded in the U.S., He was more excited about meeting session musicians like Jerry Hey, Nathan East, Vinnie Colauita and Jeff Porcaro than meeting any Pop stars. The problem was that, even though his albums became more progressive, he couldn't shake the Teeny-bopper image the label had promoted... anyway, my favorite albums by Nik are The Riddle and Radio Musicola... ... It's funny - when that song came out, everybody was trying to figure out what the riddle was...actually, I think MCA even had some kind of promo contest to see if people could figure it out. Years later , Kershaw admitted, "It doesn't really mean anything"... " I've got six things on my mind --you're no longer one of them." - Paddy McAloon, Prefab Sprout
