Underappreciated Female artists

I know there are about a million names that could go on a list like this, but I took the time to make a little presentation to display some that come to mind. With all the Britneys, Beyonces, and Christinas that get full blown media assault campaigns launched onto the public, I thought it might be good to throw out a few artists who have had record deals, but have failed to receive proper recognition for their talents and abilities. If radio treated these ladies with the same reverence as they do artists like Ashanti and Ashley Simpson, people probably wouldn't have such a distaste for the current playlists that plague the radiowaves on a daily basis. It would also set a much-needed standard for future artists to to attempt to aspire to. In a fair world, these divas would rule the radio.

Cherokee - I Swear (video)

Amel Larrieux - For Real

Jacqee McGhee & the Family Stand - Connected

Goapele - Butterfly Kisses

Heather Headley - He Is

Jaguar Wright - The What Ifs

Jane Child - Mona Lisa Smiles

JazzyFatNastees - Unconditional Ways

Laurnea - Infatuation

Les Nubians - Sweetest Taboo

Lina - Its Alright

Lizz Wright - Open Your Eyes

N'Dea Davenport - Whatever You Want

Rachelle Ferrell - Satisfaction

Rhian Benson - Say How I Feel

The most underappreciated artist I can think of is Bernadette Cooper from Klymaxx. She was a big part of Klymaxx which was an all female band that played instruments. She also was behind behind Madame X.

These ladies were far from weak. They could throwdown hard like the men.

lol Ole Bernadette was looking really rough at the beginning of that show. She looked much better later in the show when she did her hair and make-up. She wasn't about to take no mess off of that other girl either. lol

VH1 reunited the band for a concert. They tracked each member down, one by one, and showed what they were doing with their lives now. The girls were living just "average" lives, kinda boring ones.

Anyway, one of the girls had put together a new group of girls and was touring using the name "Klymaxx". All the other girls were mad at her about it and suing her, especially Bernadette, who was furious. When VH1 approached the girl's door, she refused to epen it until she talked to her lawyer.

The girls agreed to do the concert and some of them were willing to perform with the girl that started the mess. Bernadette was totally unwilling to perform with her. I thought she was going to kick her ass. lol Anyway, the show went on without the girl.

Wendy Williams was talking shit about Ms.Cooper all the time during the airing of the show.

She(Cooper) got alot of flack 4 her attitude shrug I don't see why tho.

I don't see why either. I would have been pissed too. As far as the other girl goes, who would want to see Klymaxx without Bernadette Cooper? That would be like seeing The Time without Morris Day.

Neneh Cherry is cute, but I don't think she's of the caliber of the women I posted. Granted, I'm not familiar with a great deal of her work other than what got played on the radio. "Buffalo Stance" doesn't exactly cut it in my book. How the hell I forgot Joi is beyond me. I have her CD. Talk about saying "f*ck the mainstream!" I also left out Kina. She should have been the next generation's Tina Turner. I omitted Res on purpose. I'd rather do her than listen to her. Sorry. Just being honest. I don't know Maysa. Gotta do my homework.

this is exactly why i consider neneh cherry underappreciated. i guarantee you, if you had a chance to listen to 'homebrew', or if you even had a chance to listen to her subsequent album 'man', you'd have a waaaay different opinion on her. i think she fell in the cracks, at least here in america, because she started making 'alternative' soul music. she didn't make cookie-cutter music, and it was hard to put a label on her. i mean, she did a duet with michael stipe on 'homebrew' that was all about teaching sex education in school, fer pete's sake! lol neneh cherry was about WAY more than 'buffalo stance', trust me. and because more people don't know that, she's a very good example of an underappreciated female artist. thanks for helping me make my point! smile

ditto everything anxiety said...the good news is that neneh is working on a new album that will hopefully be released this year..the bad news is that this is a completely different album then the one that was supposed to be released last year. whofarted

deals, but have failed to receive proper recognition for their talents and abilities. If radio treated these ladies with the same reverence as they do artists like Ashanti and Ashley Simpson, people probably wouldn't have such a distaste for the current playlists that plague the radiowaves on a daily basis.
