Classic Jam of the Day.... "aint nothing going on but the rent" by Gwen Gutherie! This song fuckin rocks! It's timeless and funky as hell. This woman could sing her arse off. Too bad she is no longer with us. I was listening to her Greatest hits last night and there are some killers cuts on it. "in the rain", "pad lock" and she even does a great rendition of the Carpenters 'close to you". Would you consider her music R&B or House?
Another classic jam in the same vein of "nothing going on but the rent" would be "somebody else's guy" by Jocelyn Brown. That woman has basket ball lungs! I would to get a copy of that track. Does anyone own any of her albums?

Yes!!! two perfect picks!!
I loved Gwen Guthrie, Ain't nothing going on, Close to you... the whole album had many hot spots and no, I don't consider her house really and "Somebeody elses guy" wooooww!! soulful dancemusic in 100 percent perfection, period. this track is probably in my time top ten of all times... if I ever took the time to compile such a list yep, I have the original 12 inch, the 7 inch and a CD reissue with various versions of the song and a few other tracks on it. she made a couple of quite nice recordings after that, "Ego maniac" springs to my mind right now.. but none of them ever touched "Somebody elses guy" reminds me also of Jenny Burton "Bad habits".. basically a rip of "Somebody..", still one helluva jam! gotta get ALL of those records out now.. thanx dancerella, you made my day Vanglorious... this is protected by the red, the black, and the green. With a key... sissy!

You really don't consider these jams to be house music? i hear some serious house influences on these cuts though I know they're considered to be r&b. So what are the rest of the songs like on Jocelyn Brown's cd? Are they at least half as good as "somebosy else's guy"? I saw it at Virgin Megastore for $20. Is it worth the price? I'm dying to hear that song.
