Miles Davis: In A Silent Way V.S. Bitches Brew

I've been listening to In A Silent Way many times and I can't deny its brilliance. In A Silent Way is what I consider to be Miles Davis' best album because it's so original and classy. This was were fusion-jazz was at it's all-time peak. Bitches Brew, on the other hand, is a little too strain, long, and experimental for me. I mean, it's good and I do think it's a cool album, but it's just scary-- especially if I turn the lights off and close my eyes to listen to it. It's a classic fusion album and all, but I'd have to say In A Silent Way beats Bitches Brew all the way. So what's your pick:

Bitches Brew gets a lot more love, but In A Silent Way is my favorite Miles album too. Pure magic.

Just as you said, "In a silent Way" is just classy and beautiful. And
it would probably be my fav Miles album too, if it weren't for the
fact that I really enjoy scary, weird music like "Bitches Brew". When
I heard it for the first time my jaw kept sinking closer and closer
to the floor. Pure magic. Voodoo. I don't know. It just reaches beyond
the borders of the known world into a dark realm of insanity.

That's a tough one, but I'd say In A Silent Way is a bit more enjoyable. Both are great albums, so I'll just pick them both!

Both albums were so different I dont' even know where to start.....I think In A Silent Way was Miles moving towards fusion whereas Bitches Brew was him finally arriving. I'm gonna say Bitches Brew because I love the vibe it puts out....it's advanced and primitive at the same time.

Bitches, but if I had to vote for my personal fave Miles album it'd be 'A Tribute To Jack Johnson' awesome in it's laid back yet intense grooveness.

Confession: I've never actually listened all the way thru (Bitches Brew).
Bitches Brew is conceptually beautiful. Silent Way is just beautiful. Don't think I ever caught myself humming the Brew.

Hmmm...

Ya know, the first time I listened to Bitches Brew, I was mad because I just didn't get it. It took me awhile to realize that I'm not supposed to "get it". It simply is what it is.

In a Silent Way is a lot more listenable, in my opinion. I probably enjoy it more simply because I always seem to gravitate towards the melody of a work. Whether we call it "edited jamming" or "organized spontaneity", it's fun.
