yes, this is definitely one of the tightest and baddest grooves in the family stone catalogue. It's amazing that such a narcotic, weary album would be opened by a such an aggressive, exuberant song and that it still fits into the disquieting, druggy whole. Yeah. It's like, once you hear this track, you know you're about to be taken for a drug-hazed ride. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

Here's an interesting article about Sly posted on another forum
http://www.stevehoffman.t...hp?t=24621 And another one about Larry Graham http://66.77.27.26/artists/graham.shtml A Couple of quotes that caught my eye. "sly could play every instrument himself including drums". I wonder if that includes horns? He did study trumpet performance in Vallejo junior college if I'm not mistaken. Did all this overdubbing over the other band members parts include the jerry and cynthia? "There's always a chance we'll get back together, as long as sly is alive and working" Gee wouldn't that be nifty [Edited 5/1/05 18:51pm]

I recall reading an article a while back about Sly and The Family Stone performing at a music festival and being so mindblowing that none of the other legendary bands wanted to follow them on stage. I was thinking the other day about how many Stevie Wonder threads pop up on this forum and how people are always going on about his genius (I'm guilty of it as well ). Yet, we rarely get the threads about how much of a genius Sly Stone truly is. When you listen to albums like There's A Riot Goin' On its amazing how forward thinking the album sounds. Sly was so far ahead of his time, I just wish he received more recognition. Miles Davis realized how brilliant Sly is; Sly and Jimi made Miles change his sound. [Edited 5/1/05 23:31pm]
