Honey Cones/Want Ads

There were a lot of songs that were "influenced" by the Jackson Five. "One Bad Apple" by The Osmonds was one. "Want Ads" by The Honey Cones was another. Released in 71, when the J5 were at their peak, "Want Ads" sounds JUST like a Jackson Five tune. Anyway, I always found myself digging these rip-off sound a like tunes of the J5. "Want Ads" is no exception. I liked it when I was little, thinking it was the J5 and I still like it now. I'm just amazed at how this song is so much like the J5. Anyway, who else here likes "Want Ads"?

I like 'Want Ads and "Stick Up". both songs were written by Holland, Dozier and Holland. They were suing Berry Gordy at the time. So maybe making it sound like
ABC was a way to get even.

You should check out some of the other "Hot Wax" CD's. Hot Wax was the name of
HDH label.

nod Man, you went waaay back on back on this one. But, you are right about J5 and the Osmonds doing some biting b/c the beat and the chords are similar.

Taylor Dayne covered it on her debut album, it was great.

Sounded retro like the original, but only with stronger vocals! biggrin

I never noticed that about One Bad Apple, but you're absolutely right.

Speaking of the Osmonds, I knew Donny's song C'mon Marianne early in life, and when I first heard the Doors' Touch me I though that was a rip off of the Donny's song (the openings are almost identical). Hey, I was young...
