Yeah, I was pretty mixed up. Tried the lightening my hair and colored contacts. I didn't want to be white, just light skinned.(Beyonnce) neutral
Funny thing is, my husband snapped me out of it. He asked me shortly after we got married, why did I wear colored contacts (light brown) when my own dark brown eyes were so much prettier, etc. And we had a discussion. He said to me " if I wanted to marry a Marsha Brady, I could have married Marsha herself". Meaning if he wanted a girl who looked white, he could have married a white girl. That really opened my eyes and slowly I have learned to my nut brown skin, I don't hide all summer in the shade for fear of getting "too dark" and thought I looked my best with braids and a deep tan 2 summers ago. Oh and BTW, my husband is a white man, and he thinks Serena Williams is the ultimate beauty. Quite a difference from Vanity. wink

GREAT POST!

I'm happy for you. Your husband sounds more together than some brothas I know. We all have our own preferences, but I get annoyed when I hear people(including some blacks) put down dark skin. These brainwashed fools better realize it doesn't matter how dark or light you are - we're all in the same boat.

It's always something.....I'm Mexican and in Mexico if you're dark you're too "indian", which to some people means dumb/poor. Indigenous people get treated like hell over there. I think that even within a race there are stupid issues.

That's the truth! Spike Lee addressed this in his film "School Daze".

This topic is a bit depressing. It's just so sad that this kind of prejudice still exists within the black race.

To progidalfan, I can totally believe that your husband thinks Serena is beautiful. White men are more accepting of darker women than some black men. For black men, it seems like they're geting some kind of "upgrade" if they date a yellow chick. Meanwhile white men think that dark skinned women are beautiful and exotic.

It is indeed sad that black people still have these hangups to this day. And yes it does seem to be that white males are interested in latinas and black females more than ever. I don't know if they are a reflection of their inner desire to reproduce the hip hop videos they see or if they really mean their true desires. I guess if Michael Bolton & Celine Dion videos become hip then we will know what they were really about in the first place rolleyes

Now back to the brothas...I've PERSONALLY witnessed brothas only date light skinned black females or latinas. Even women that are "middle" range or whatever that would be for black people...they won't talk to because they don't find those women attractive. These women could be multi-millionaires with college degrees..the whole package...these men wouldn't holla at them because of their complexion...

Some folks like Dairy Queen...some like Baskin Robbins...they both serve ice cream...whats the difference?

Please people dont hurt me BUT I always thought it cool how MC Hammer always used female dancers that were based solely on talent and not on skin colour. The posse of girls dancing on for example "too legit to quit" music video are very dark and not what the media would called "attractive" or "provocative" sexually. Big up hammer people.

Personally I do find lighter skinned black people more attractive. Maybe that is becuase I have sen so many in the media? In Norwich, perhaps the whitest town in England, I see barely any sad Coming from inner city chicago where I grew up in a esentially latino enighbourhood to a very white noriwch in England, was very strange.

I knew yo ass was crazy lol chair disbelief

And as far as Hammer he didn't do shit - dark skinned women have always been good enough to be backup dancers but most often not the love interest. neutral

As I told dancerella, i can see why people would get upset, but we all have preferances when it comes to attraction. U all know Iam not racist by any means (I hope?)

As for the hammer thing, at least around this time, I have noticed few black dancers and if they were black as in dark skinned, they were often skinny. The girls in those hammer videos were quite thick. For an artist who was as big as hammer to do that was kinda cool. Ur right about the love interest though. "House party" had a dark skinned girl as a love interest right? Not that it's relevant to music videos, but she was hot. Alot hotter then tisha campbell. razz

Remember "in living color"? They had the "barney" thing going. The fly girlz were all races. One white, one black, one chinese etc..... No point to make, just saying is all.
