Is that what that movie is about? I didn't know that. Anne Rice books don't really translate well into film though. Remember 'Exit to Eden'? barf

You're right on that one but I don't think she had any say in THAT movie. I really loved FEAST OF ALL SAINTS. I think it was initially made for HBO and later released on DVD.

Have you ever read any of the BEAUTY series. It's 3 books(porn) written by Anne Rice as A.N.Roquelaure. Boy oh boy are those books porn material. It figures she lived in the Castro District in San Francisco, for a while.

It's not unfair, it's the cold-blooded truth. You don't see white folks destroying their natural features to look 'more African'. But some mixed-up black folks have bought into that whole 'dark is bad' mentality. No black person with an ounce of self-respect would lighten their skin(Michael Jackson is a disgrace), dye their hair or wear blue contact lenses. It looks stupid anyway.

I say stop listening to Madison Avenue, wake the f--- up and be proud of who you are. Black is beautiful.

rolleyes Ok, first of all have u even tried to research that skin diease vitilago that he has? I highly doubt u have. So before u go ranting off that he bleached his skin, check ur facts first and shut ur mouth.

and guess what evrybody is entitled to their opinon and whether yall want to hear it or not it's the truth. and as for michael jackson as long as michael is happy im happy for him. and yes you would have to be an ignorant, stubborn, stupid, blind assed motherfucker not to see Michael always wanted to be white.

WHAT THE HELL IS THIS SUPPOSED TO MEAN??!!

although im no expert on this subject, some of what you guys are saying is just dumb. so if a black wants a different hair colour or they want a nose job their trying to be white? maybe its just the fact that they wanna try different hair colours or that blonde looks better on them. and the case with michael jackson and his nose, someone has said this before but maybe its just a case of him just not liking his nose, not a case of not liking his race. its seems a bit unfair that if a black person dyes their hair or has a nose job their automatically 'trying to be white'. so its ok for a white person to dye their hair darker or black, or get a nose job and change their features but its not ok for black people?

I agree.

1. You would be surprise how often I've seen some white women (ages 16-25 at least) in the dirty south that actually have booties like black women today!!!

2. I like Kylie Minogue. But have you notice her new lips lately? Botox or not, she has black woman size lips now!

3. I like Angelina Jolie. She's a natural beauty in a psychosexy sort of way. But sometimes I wonder if she has a few black ancestors from at least 4 generations back or if she's on the bolox once in a while!

4. And lets not forget about Britney Spears when she already developing beautiful black women-like curbs during her teens years (even if the breasts were natural or paid for).

Umm, having a big butt is not a race thing. I'm white and I have a big round behind. I am sick of hearing that having a big butt is only common in black women. That is a stereotype. I have seen a lot of black women at college that have flat butts. Whether or not, u have a big butt depends on if it runs in ur family not the color of ur skin.

I have a bridge for sale - want to buy it? I guess you're still waiting for Elvis.

If you can't take people criticizing your hero , you've got a problem. Why don't you shut your mouth?

Please stop generalizing Michael Jackson fans. Not all of us are alike. There are a lot of things that I don't agree with on Michael Jackson. For example, his nose, stubborness etc. I do think that he has a skin disorder and have researched it. Do u think all white people like Elvis or somethin? Talk about ignorant. U seem to have a lot of stereotypes on white people. It is really offensive.

Ok, then that's ur opinion. Stop stereotyping. I don't believe everything I hear, ok? I could say that u believe everything that is said in the media because u believe Michael Jackson bleached his skin. Thats not the truth at all and neither is people who believe that Michael Jackson has a skin disorder believe anything.

Thanks for the tip on the race relations book. I'd liek to check it out! It must have been 10 times worse back then.

It was made for Showtime. The only two films done write were Interview with the Vampire and Feast of all Saints. Those are the only two Anne had something to do with

Dancerella, you knew that this was going to be a touchy subject. So don't sweat it! wink

Now if you really want some controversial research, check out Race Relations In 20th Century New Orleans Louisiana History.

When it comes to subject of skin color, Dark vs. Light was far worse in New Orleans (IMHO) than anywhere else in American History.

And everything basically hit the fan during the 1980's as well. I remember firsthand watching the light-skin (red) black men being able to have as many options of women of their choosing (including black, red, white, latina, & asian). Meanwhile, the dark-skin (jet black/brown) black men had to settle for whatever was left (and even if white or latina was still an option, it was only the full-figured ones. Asians was alomst never an option at all. And some dark-skinned black women rejected them for the light/red ones)!!!

Sad indeed! sad

BTW, It's not a book that actually exist. But try to look up the subject in those exact words with a search engine & see what happens.

I lived in New Orleans for most of my childhood. And yes, this problem was (and still is) deep!

1. DNA does matter. You're right.

2. CORRECTION: The average (read: not all) black woman does have a naturally curved booty. Trust me!cool

3. Like yourself, I also have seen some black women with flat booties. In most cases. they also have naturally large breasts to make up the differences (read: family DNA).

4. Be very happpy that you have curves. And never allow the media to tell you that it's a bad thing.

Alek is so beautiful to me and yet when i posted a pic of her on here a while ago some commented that she looked like a creature from star trek mad

Some of you are taking this a bit too far. I think there is a difference between Beyonce and Lil kim. Beyonce's is just a look and Lil kim has some issues with herself and her look. Lil kim has stated that she wants to look like Pamela Anderson. I do think its easier on americans psyche to look at Beyonce/Halle Berry than an Alex Wek. I just wish we all can sit at the table of what is deemed BEAUTY.

Its a shame that black americans have such issue with being dark. Its really dumb BUT its what's put out there as to what is beautiful.

Well that's human nature. That's why I hate the term "color-blind society". People need to be honest with themselves. We all notice color, and to me, it's not a bad thing. There's nothing with acknowledging/and being proud of our differences. Living in NYC, I love the diversity here - it's what makes America great. The problem is when certain folks use skin color as a badge of superiority. Unfortunately, it's never going away.

Vitilgo is a neurological skin disorder that causes u to loose melanin in your skin. IT DOES NOT CAUSE YOU TO HAVE A STRAIGHTER NOSE AND LONG STRAIGHT HAIR.

Michael got plastic surgery on his nose because he thought it was too big, not because he wanted to be "white". Umm his sister Janet got plastic surgery on her nose. Does that mean she wants to be white too? Whats ur point about the long straight hair? I've seen a lot of black people with long straight hair. For ex. (beyonce). Does that mean that they wanna be white too?

I dont think Beyonce is tryna be white at all...i dont know if thats what ur tryna say or not tryna say-but i dont think shes tryna be white cuz everytime she wins an award thats very rare 4 a black person 2 win a yet alone a black woman 2 win she always is so touched and gives interviews about how she is so honored and happy 4 representing black women...now if she wanted 2 be white she prolly wouldnt even acknowledge her "blackness".yes, she has blonde hair but so does EVE the "hott straight gangsta ghetto girl"-now does she wanna be white?!?!?!i dont think so...Trina...yeah the rapper had a blonde wig and gray contact do u think she wanna be white...i dont think so...
Just becuz a black female changes her eyecolor or haircolor it doesnt automatically mean they wanna be white-sometimes they wanna change their style or they may just like the way they look in that color shrug who knows???

Please people dont hurt me BUT I always thought it cool how MC Hammer always used female dancers that were based solely on talent and not on skin colour. The posse of girls dancing on for example "too legit to quit" music video are very dark and not what the media would called "attractive" or "provocative" sexually. Big up hammer people.

Personally I do find lighter skinned black people more attractive. Maybe that is becuase I have sen so many in the media? In Norwich, perhaps the whitest town in England, I see barely any sad Coming from inner city chicago where I grew up in a esentially latino enighbourhood to a very white noriwch in England, was very strange.

I know for me, the 80's was a big blow to my self esteem. Actually, Prince and his choice in women had a huge impact on what was considered beautiful and desirable in my circle of associates. Vanity was like the ultimate beauty, light skinned long straight hair, and caucausian features.
My then boyfriend really got into that look and me being his girlfriend, (and not looking like Vanity lol) I was always trying to measure up and failing.

He actually told me one time that I was almost too dark for him, and honestly WE WERE THE SAME SKIN TONE. He could wear my foundation... you can't get any more even than that!

Yeah, I was pretty mixed up. Tried the lightening my hair and colored contacts. I didn't want to be white, just light skinned.(Beyonnce) neutral
Funny thing is, my husband snapped me out of it. He asked me shortly after we got married, why did I wear colored contacts (light brown) when my own dark brown eyes were so much prettier, etc. And we had a discussion. He said to me " if I wanted to marry a Marsha Brady, I could have married Marsha herself". Meaning if he wanted a girl who looked white, he could have married a white girl. That really opened my eyes and slowly I have learned to my nut brown skin, I don't hide all summer in the shade for fear of getting "too dark" and thought I looked my best with braids and a deep tan 2 summers ago. Oh and BTW, my husband is a white man, and he thinks Serena Williams is the ultimate beauty. Quite a difference from Vanity. wink

GREAT POST!

I'm happy for you. Your husband sounds more together than some brothas I know. We all have our own preferences, but I get annoyed when I hear people(including some blacks) put down dark skin. These brainwashed fools better realize it doesn't matter how dark or light you are - we're all in the same boat.
