although im no expert on this subject, some of what you guys are saying is just dumb. so if a black wants a different hair colour or they want a nose job their trying to be white? maybe its just the fact that they wanna try different hair colours or that blonde looks better on them. and the case with michael jackson and his nose, someone has said this before but maybe its just a case of him just not liking his nose, not a case of not liking his race. its seems a bit unfair that if a black person dyes their hair or has a nose job their automatically 'trying to be white'. so its ok for a white person to dye their hair darker or black, or get a nose job and change their features but its not ok for black people? It's not unfair, it's the cold-blooded truth. You don't see white folks destroying their natural features to look 'more African'. But some mixed-up black folks have bought into that whole 'dark is bad' mentality. No black person with an ounce of self-respect would lighten their skin(Michael Jackson is a disgrace), dye their hair or wear blue contact lenses. It looks stupid anyway.
I say stop listening to Madison Avenue, wake the f--- up and be proud of who you are. Black is beautiful.

[Edited 4/24/05 21:50pm] Where the white girls tryin 2 nap up their hair to look a lil' more black? In my opinion we already have the best hairstyles, these female role-models for young black girls need step up and show that u dont have to be ashamed because u dont have "long luxurious hair" or be "lightskinned"....I remember feeling so good when i heard a little girl singing "I'm not your average girl from your video..." UptownNY hit the nail on the head man, u are totally right. Straight Jacket Funk Affair

I say stop listening to Madison Avenue, wake the f--- up and be proud of who you are. Black is beautiful. 1. You would be surprise how often I've seen some white women (ages 16-25 at least) in the dirty south that actually have booties like black women today!!! 2. I like Kylie Minogue. But have you notice her new lips lately? Botox or not, she has black woman size lips now! 3. I like Angelina Jolie. She's a natural beauty in a psychosexy sort of way. But sometimes I wonder if she has a few black ancestors from at least 4 generations back or if she's on the bolox once in a while! 4. And lets not forget about Britney Spears when she already developing beautiful black women-like curbs during her teens years (even if the breasts were natural or paid for). I'll keep you posted if I notice any further examples. [Edited 4/24/05 22:56pm]

Xavier23, you make SOME good points but you're taking it a little far in some instances IMO Beyonce Knowles, notice blonde wig + light makeup
What do you mean by "light makeup"? I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it

Take Patti LaBelle for example: BEFORE: ![]()
AFTER: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I really don't think Patti is trying to be White. Of course I don't have many examples of this b/c too many people go to extremes And as far as "no self respecting Black person would... dye their hair" that's just dumb I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! It's not that no one on the planet can have full lips except Black people BUT when there is a White chick out w/ full lips (natural or purchased) people make a big deal out of it like it's something new The shit is amazing, like Jennifer Lopez & the ass thing. Granted, she's not White but she's accepted by the masses as if she is. They act like her ass is a revolution 4. And lets not forget about Britney Spears when she already developing beautiful black women-like curbs during her teens years (even if the breasts were natural or paid for).
First off, it's "curves" Y'all take stuff to extremes, blowing shit out of proportion so nobody pays attention to any of it . [Edited 4/25/05 1:09am] I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it

As a very single man, I can honestly tell you that in the dating scene today (at least in my regional area), the rules has change. All I do is sit quietly, watch, and observe. I'm not taking anything to extremes. I'm keeping real by tell you the truth. And in our reality, there is a lot of sexy women out here! And they all have the curves!! I just being honest. BTW, pardon me for saying "curbs" instead of "curves". [Edited 4/25/05 1:27am]

Well, I grew up during the 60s, when "Black Power", "Black is Beautiful" & "Say it Loud..." was the thing. So I'm harsher than most when it comes to subjects like this. I just feel trying to attain someone else's standard of beauty is foolish, and looks ridiculous. Some of these black celebrities don't know what time it is.

Alicia Keys and India Arie are probably equally talented (though I do prefer Alicia's music). When they were in the same categories a couple of years ago at the Grammy's, Alicia racked up and still continues to do better than India. Do you think her complection might have something to do with that?
