Let me finally ask the question! Stevie vs. Prince

I know this is a Prince forum, but it seems Stevie gets alot of love on this forum also. I'll be the first to admit that I hate comparing artist to each other, cause no true great artist thinks the same, and it will be unfair to say one had better thought than the other. However theres a great thread on here asking if Stevie Wonder had the best run ever for a solo act during the 70's. Many people are arguing that Prince should be in the running also! So just for the hell of it I wanted to ask who do you guys think are better Stevie Wonder or Prince!

Let the bells ring!!!!!

Stevie to me is overrated. I think cause he blind he got the extra attention and i respect him no doubt. But by far Prince is better. I think Lionel Richie is better than Stevie Wonder. Prince is no doubt the second best male artist in my book to come out after Michael jackson with elton john and lionel Richie a close 3rd and 4th respectfully.

Prince.

I have respect for Stevie and enjoy some of his music, but he isn't the genius that P is. (Although I really don't like to compare artists either)

Prince music had more edge, P was a bad boy with all the sexual shit.

While Stevie's music was more socially consious, he is a nice guy who makes great music. They are both great producers.

But Prince is just funkier, cooler, and hip.

I love Stevie and I agree with Cloudy that his 70's work is fantastic, but for me it's always been Prince!

Not fair to ask this question on a Prince board anyway. All people on here do is live and brweathe prince. You all would say prince better than michael jackson and madonna and we all know that is not the case.

Yes I did. Lionel Richie is a good singer and his songs had class and a style to them like no other male artists. I was only 6 yrs old when i saw him suffer in defeat 8 times to michael jackson's thriller but came back the next year and beat Purple Rain. The man is good and i think people on here still hold resentment to that.

I have a deeper personal preference for Prince. But that don't mean Prince is better than Stevie.

You're out of your mind.

No disrespect to Lionel Richie, 'cause the Commodores rocked, but has he ever painted a devastating portrait of America's racist class system such as "Village Ghetto Land" or "Living for the City"? Has he mastered multiple instruments (never mind the major disability factor, 'cause Stevie doesn't need the extra points)? Does he have a list of heart-breakingly beautiful ballads so long, they can make you experience the gamut of emotion from the depths of rejection to the heights of euphoria?

P.S. I can't answer the question of who's "better," Prince or Stevie. But if forced to choose between my Stevie stuff and my Prince stuff, I'd pick Prince.

Man I respect evryone opion but I cant sit back and here someone say Lionel Richie is better than Stevie WOnder!! And as far as Stevie being over rated thats just crazy. If "I just called to say I love you" was Stevie biggest hit I would say yes people are treating this blind man a little to nicely!! As far as Stevie not getting funky I can't beleive someone could actually listen to music and think that, do i really need to list all the funky ass hits Stevie has had. I give Prince all the credit in the world and he has transformed music but I dont think anyone is touching Stevie! Stevie took the seeds that was planted by Curtis Mayfield and MArvin Gaye and out came out a beatiful flower. Forget about the 70's when Prince was in his "prime" Stevie was as popular than then anytime in his career.

As far as sexual lyrics I'm not going to say Prince has more sexual lyrics then Prince, I mean come on Prince made Sexy Motherfucker!!!! But Stevie def. has some lyrics that can get the girls wet!!

This is a hard one but Stevie and Prince is both the man to me. But although i Respect Richie he's not in the same lead as Stevie WOnder!!1

I refuse to participate in some contest that pits two of our greatest and most profound artists against one another.
You might as well ask me: Hey man, what do you like better; missionary or doggystyle?

My reply: Who cares fool! I'm still gettin' some!

Prince is my fav, but they're about on the same level of musical ingenuity.

Two VERY different people...

Prince is the best overall musician of the 25 lasting years...
Nobody can touch him
One of the Most prolific of all times, and very ecclectic...
A true Genius...
A lot of classic albums...

I don't what to say...he's untouchable....

In the other hand we have stevie...
And when I say Stevie.... I said it all....

This is THE ONLY artist in the world that I don't see him as an human being...
His talent comes from GOD, the one and only artist that I can say HOW he DID IT ???

THIS GUY IS BLIND ????
And he plays all the instruments and his music his timeless than any other artist...

I have a lot of respect for Prince, but shit we compare him to a BLIND GUY...

Maybe we will see an artist as talent as Prince but we'll never see again a blind guy as talented as Stevie and doing what Stevie has done when he was very young...

Like I used to say, Prince Music is incredibile and priceless, but Stevie Music it's more than that...
It's a part of the story of Black History, every african american should have an album of Stevie...

There was a thread a while back not too shortly after I came to prince.org debating who was more talented. That became quite heated to say the least.

Personally I think a good case could be made that Stevie is the greatest individual musician in history, or at least 20th century pop music when you take all factors into consideration (singing, songwriting, producing, musicianship, social activism, cultural/historical importance). Prince is definitely up there too, and prince can do certain things better than stevie (guitar, sexuality, dancing) but stevie's prime is one of the most rich bodies of work next to the Beatles and Duke Ellington, and while Prince often rocked harder than stevie I don't think he was any more funky, and his music was never quite as classy as Stevie's and even a lot of his best stuff hasn't aged as well (chalk it up to the fact that the production style of the 80s just hasn't aged as well in general). Plus prince had more creative partners than stevie, many of whom didn't get all the credit they deserved. One thing Prince does do better, or at least more often than stevie, is be dark or dirty (though see Maybe Your Baby and They won't go when I go for the dark side of stevie). Otherwise I think Stevie's a better singer, songwriter and producer, and at least as good and perhaps an even better multi-instrumentalist than prince.

Let's put it this way, among currently living and/or active musicians stevie and prince are numbers one and two respectively in my list of favorites
