GangstaFam said: SassyBritches said: and in other tori related ideas...while listening to marys of the sea this morning on my way to class i realized that tori has read "the davinci code." maybe i'm slow on this but its all about the church shutting out the female figures in biblical history (that part i already knew) but the notion of dancing the ring, building on rock that's on sand, something no man can divide, and the lost bride weeps. i knew she was specifically speaking of the two marys but i didn't realize she was addressing the whole "did jesus and mary get married" thing. i haven't read "the davinci code" (the hype has me completely disinterested) but i'm assuming from what i've heard, seen, and read about it, tori is a big fan of the novel.
Yeah, it gets a few mentions in her book, along with several others on the subject. She seemed to be going for similarly titled songs there in the middle. "Mother" and "Mother Revolution". "Marys of the Sea" and "Marianne". the davinci code does or marys of the sea does? i still haven't had the time to sit and read the book.

Okay. I was at the San Francisco show. The show had a real intensity to it, an epic feeling. I really felt like she was concentrating on her lofty, heady, expansive songs one after another. Or maybe it was just how she was playing them, as they were all quite slowed down from the recorded versions. Not much levity, not too much Boys For Pele edginess, but epic. That word kept coming to mind as the show went on. There was something large, full, challenging and intense about the show. The piano was ROARING!
One of the high points for me was "Moonshadow" which was sweet, utterly beautiful, graceful, mystical. A total different mood from the rest of the show. It blew me away. Father Figure was good too. That's my review.

The Davinci Code. And you'll love the book. I read about a chapter every night before bed and it was like good drugs - mind expanding. She just filled up my head with all these wonderful thoughts before sleep, a nice feeling. I was sad when I finished. I wanted it to go on forever. Great read.

It's just stunning to see someone so talented pounding away at her instrument like that. I've never been to a concert with such great sound -- her voice and instrument sounded way better than any recording could have. And she was so pretty in her pink dress, wearing these genie pants underneath. I loved her body movements. Though I wasn't far, I wish I had been up front to really commune and see her face and expressions more. In general, she didn't play a lot of my favorite songs, but some. I could have used a bit of roughness or spontaneity, as it all seemed so perfect. Something surprising. Maybe more covers. I'm not complaining though. All I have to say is -- they better have that Moonshadow download on hereinmyhead...

Not many artists can pull off a full length show solo with just their instrument. It's always amazed me how powerful and flawless she is live. Woman's got a lot of mojo. And you'd think in an objective sense that just a woman and her piano performing so many ballads would get slow or boring after awhile. But it's the opposite. She pulls you further and further in leaving you wanting more and feeling like it's never enough.

the final setlist of the 1st us leg:
Original Sinsuality Silent All These Years Parasol Doughnut Song Yes, Anastasia Jamaica Inn Cool On Your Island ----- Livin' On A Prayer (Bon Jovie) All Through The Night (Cyndi Lauper) ----- Barons of Suburbia Take To The Sky Cloud On My Tongue Ruby Through The Looking Glass The Beekeeper ----- Tear In Your Hand Toast ----- Sweet The Sting Twinkle very similar to the chicago show but there are definitely moments in here that have me a little jealous, namely ruby, all through the night, toast, and twinkle.

Hey Tori fans, she'll be the 2nd guest on the Tavis Smiley show on PBS 04/26/05:
http://www.pbs.org/kcet/t...50426.html Tori was recently on the UK version of MTVstyle & her style icon was none other than Prince. This is what she had to say about him: (Throughout the segment they had Prince's songs playing and clips of his videos shown, I put a break in the text when a video was shown) "Hi there I'm Tori Amos and my style icon has to be Prince. I remember seeing Purple rain at the theatre and uhh... I couldn't leave my seat. I was transfixed by that purple coat. I just remember that Prince was able to hold that Jimi Hendrix musicallity and yet was able to have the sexuality of Jim Morrison. That was quite something at this time; especially in an African American guy who was able to hold the best of the Apollo looking Gods and the most sensual and rhythmic Marvin Gaye and Jimi Hendrix type of rock icon. I thought he had soul and rock in one being and everything he wore; everything he put on was like a second skin and it was completely delicious." [Edited 4/26/05 0:03am]

Not the most flattering shot I've seen of her. The hat's cute though.
And thanks for the heads up!

Also, I spoke with my friend who sat in the 5th row and we determined that the sound was much better where I was sitting (back of the orchestra). Because for me the sound was absolutely perfect. So I'm not complaining. I wish I could hear all the setlists though. That kind of bugs me.

Oh, I didn't mean that. Just that she can carry the show with just voice and piano. No fancy lighting, no gimmicks, nothin'.
