when the 15-25 year old orgers are 35-40, they'll be saying the same thing about bullshit like JoJo and Ashlee Simpson that DavidEye is saying now. and it will be just as insane then as it is now lol

Wow, 10 of the top 20 in 83 were British.

This was before the big US record companies squeezed import artists out of the market.

Damn, you beat me to it, i was just going to post that. Having said that, Im not convinced the British music industry has much to offer anymore. The artists that deserve it tend to get recognition in the US. I would point out that only a certain kind of act tends to get to number one in the US now. There seems to be a little more variety then. Maybe its down to the way they compile the lists nowadays.

The pre-MTV cats had no idea. Only Lionel Richie and Hall and Oates survived past the mid-80's. Billy Squier coulda stayed huge if he'd had an inventive video director.

Then again, most of the acts on the '83 chart didn't last past '86.

you hit it right on the head when you said its probably how they compile the lists the only reason people like 50 cent have 4 songs in the billboard top 10 this week is because we are loaded here in the U.S with Rhythmic Hit radio stations and they play artists like 50 cent and the game and dont play stuff like Green Day or any other rock acts...so radio aiplay wise hip hop has a HUGE advantage and has for the last few years now on the billboard chart...
