80's Classic Song of the Day: "I Don't Like Mondays" by The Boomtown Rats I love this song, especially the piano and the lyric, "I don't like Mondays...I wanna shoot oooh, oooh, oooh...the whole day down." I can certainly relate, since I hate Mondays too.
I DON'T LIKE MONDAYS RATS BOOMTOWN ----- the silicon chip inside her head gets switched to overload and nobody's gonna go to school today she's gonna make them stay at home daddy doesn't understand it he always said she was good as gold and he can see no reasons 'cause there are no reasons what reasons do you need to be showed tell me why i dont like mondays tell me why i dont like mondays tell me why i dont like mondays i want to shoot the whole day down The Telex machine is kept so clean And it types to a waiting world And Mother feels so shocked Father's world is rocked And their thoughts turn to their own little girl Sweet 16 ain't it peachy keen No, it ain't so neat to admit defeat They can see no reasons 'Cause there are no reasons What reason do you need, oh-h-h {Refrain} Down, down, shoot it all down And all the playing's stopped in the playground now She wants to play with her toys a while And school's out early and soon we'll be learning And the lesson today is how to die And then the bullhorn crackles And the captain tackles With the problems and the how's and why's And he can see no reasons 'Cause there are no reasons What reason do you need to die, die, oh-h-h And the silicon chip inside her head Gets switched to overload Oh, and nobody's gonna go to school today She's going to make them stay at home And Daddy doesn't understand it He always said she was as good as gold And he can see no reason 'Cause there are no reasons What reason do you need to be showed {Refrain, with 7 tell me why's} RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Anyway, I love that too! I have a book that lists all of the 80's songs per week, and it shows a date of "I Don't Like Mondays" of Februry 2, 1980. Not sure if that's the date it first hit the charts or what, but that's what it says. It is a good song. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

.. ..btw this song was released in the 70s As I said above, I have a book that lists all of the 80's songs per week, and it shows a date of "I Don't Like Mondays" of Februry 2, 1980. Not sure if that's the date it first hit the charts or what, but that's what it says. The song probably was released in late 1979 sometime, but it's in the 80's songbook that I have. RIP, mom. Are you familiar with the story behind the song? Some girl taking a girl to school and shooting some of her contemporaries. Asked why, she said, simply, "I don't like Mondays"
(Sorry to all of those that knew that already and now think I am a twat.)

Yeah, if you Google it , you'll prob find the full details about it, but that is the general outline of the true story behind the song. Look at the words again and you'll see how it is worked into the song Bit of a Columbine before Columbine kinda song.

I just saw some of Live Aid where they played this, and it was one of the best songs they showed. Certainly better than Madonna's Holiday, and it aged better. Geldof didn't even look particularly dated compared to Madonna & U2.
It reminded me a bit of the Kinks, and unfortunately for Bob, it inspired me to buy a couple Kinks records! Great song, though. [Edited 4/19/05 10:54am] Check this song out at:
