What is gay music?

Occasionally people may assume Iam gay purely to the music I listen to. I do not mind, but why is some music considered gay for anyway? Just because it may be a lil' sensitive may make it gay in some peoples mind? Iam not having a go at anyone, but I wonder where u get ur theories from? Jermaine Stewart was very gay, yet sang lyircs like a hetrosexual. So therefore his music is not "gay".

Don't gay up everythng please.

because gay people dance to it and have determined mainstream popular culture and music since the 70's .

Alot of dance music is seen as gay, whether it's disco, techno, house, or dance-pop acts like Kylie (obvious example).

Also rap is dressed up as not being liked by gay people. Which of course is not true. How any gay rappers?

I know a lot of gay people to worship rap music, even the homophope rappers.
And i also know plenty of straight guys who listen to dance music.

Music of any form shouldn't have labels like "black" "white" "gay" etc.
That's just stupid.

It's just a very macho genre, especially since Run-DMC and LL Cool J made really aggressive sounding records. Of course it was male-dominated before this but especially since then, I think that's been the blueprint -- "hard as HELL! mad "

Yeah I know. It's just that quite often on here people think I may be gay because I like the Rico Suave song or Louie Louie, who make no points about being gay in their music. Again at the end of the day, who cares? I just wondered why is it considered that way for? Am I that naive?

No, many of the British rockers of the 60's were/are gay - bi, not to mention the closeted black men and women of the Motown era and prior.

You have to understand the history that gay bars and clubs served. And when I say "Gay" I mean Black Gay Clubs, because that's were most of the disco dance culture came from.

A lot of the traits in music you associate as gay came from the black subculture; who didn’t have the same conformity issues as their white counterparts.

The music is more about socialization than anything. My gay relative who got me into prince (prince’s first fans were gay black men) and all other good music is now a techno junkie. A 50-year-old gay man trying to fit in with his young counterparts.

Most gay people I know have good taste and don’t like the shit.

maybe because the Rico Suave guy's central marketing seemed to be that of "latin male hunk" and little else, so that would seem to appeal to a certain demographic.

Now, that you mention it... why DO you like him? confuse

Those are issues that deal with Black men and their masculinity issues. Rap music is the gayest thing out there. I'm about to put some people on blast...but here goes...Russell, Grandmaster Flash....The pioneers of rap are closeted gay men now called down-low.

Hey cool. Parts of his followup album "too legit to quit" were recorded at paisley park. Maybe tony M got jealous and told Prince not to make any songs with him. I could see them working together. But then, I could see James Brown and Prince working together, yet it never has happened. Oddly James was heavily in the "too legit to quit" video.

Tony M was like a hammer clone dance wise.

I can see Tony watching Hammer on the Paisley stage. Spying on him and paying hammers dancers (who often had bizarre hair) to show him hammers secret of for example a ever so slightly different variation of the typewriter where instead of going back and forth horizontally, u do it veritcally from the back to the front of the stage.

when ignorant people mistake vulnerability for weakness they will often label something "gay".

in that sense, i'm as gay as they come.

Tell that to the black gay club down here. Rap is all they play now. Most of the black gays in their 30s are now going to the white gay club which plays house/techno music. Everyone is now calling the black gay club "the high school". lol

At the Gay 90's down here in MPLS the hip-hop room is the most jumpin part of it.

What's gay music? Well if a straight guy has all Barabra Streisand's albums, all Mariah's albums, Cher's albums, Janet's albums, NO RAP MUSIC, boy groups, and bunches of techno (why do gay people have bunches of techno!!??) then they may be pretty gay.

That's not what i have in my collection (Barbra, Cher, no rap and all that mess) but if I went over a male companions house and saw that I would think twice.
