Seems like a holdover from her Y Kan't Tori Read days. Maybe cuz it doesn't fit in nicely with the work she's done from Little Earthquakes onward. It's fun enough, but kinda silly. Now "Ring My Bell"...that's another story.

That's what all Tori fans say. well, i've only got "the red shoes" and "hounds of love" so i'm certainly not incredibly familiar with kate's full body of work. just considering those two records, though, i don't see much that similar. different lyrical styles, different musical styles, and different areas of discussion; i think the comparisons come from the fact that its two women who are rather eccentric. for me, that's where the similarities seem to end.

That's what all Tori fans say. Well, I was a Kate fan long before I was a Tori fan, so I don't know if that's really true. Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

Do you think they're similar/related? I wouldn't say there was blatant theft in Tori's work. But she's most definately been influenced by Kate. She's even admitted it herself. It's not really worth denying when it has come from Tori herself. I hear a lot of Kate in Bjork's work, too. She's also given Kate a nod for her influence. It's there in their skewed perspectives of the world and the fearlessness of being prepared to sound stupid for the sake of the art. It's an honour, really.

Although she says she was drawing Kate Bush comparisons even before she had ever heard of her.

I've read that too. That someone shouted out while she was playing "Kate Bush!!!" So she went out and bought all of her music. I think any similarity between their voices is purely coincidental. That's just how Tori sings.
